Celebrities Are Getting Temporary Skin “Implants” And It’s Freaking People Out

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”, the old adage goes. But when it comes to the latest celeb trend in the beauty world, we can’t really help but wonder about the purpose of all the body modifications that started circulating on social media. Of course, A-listers are no strangers to surgical enhancements. In fact, many of them are constantly on the lookout for the next big hit in the cosmetic surgery industry.

But one particular beauty trend that took the celebrity world by storm involved temporary skin “implants”. Odd and freaky-looking, these “implants” came as a shock to many fans of several celebs who decided to jump on the bandwagon and get the modifications themselves.

The question is, what is this about, what’s the reason behind it, and of course, who did it? From Kim Kardashian West and Chrissy Teigen to Andreja Pejic and Tan France, here are the celebrities who got temporary skin “implants” and how it freaked people out.

Kim Kardashian West’s glow-in-the-dark, alien-like choker

It’s no secret that the reality star and businesswoman don’t shy away from embracing outlandish trends. In fact, many deem this celeb a trendsetter, and there were several instances when outrageous choices made Kim K go viral, from vampire facials to see-through dresses.

Still, it came as a surprise when this mom of four decided to participate in the trend that involved “adorning” her body with animalistic, weird-looking “implants”. Kardashian in particular wore the alien-like choker necklace that she described as a device that mimics her heartbeat. In the video she posted on her social media, this interesting add-on was glowing in the dark, too. Pretty cool, but also, pretty creepy.

Chrissy Teigen’s luscious set of feathers above the chest

Another television personality that was among the first ones to try the trend involving body add-ons was none other than Chrissy Teigen. The American model and mother of three, Teigen followed Kardashian’s suit but instead of adorning her neck, she went for a rather large set of feathers that expanded across her chest.

A common way to achieve such an intriguing effect is to have subdermal implants placed under your skin by an experienced doctor. In fact, many fans thought that these were implants at first.

As it turns out, these body modifications only looked like implants. The realistic effect was achieved with the help of a skillful makeup artist with an aim to promote a theatrical experience by Simon Huck called A.Human.

Andreja Pejic’s bluish-hued shoulder horns

Fashion implants intrigued model Andreja Pejic, who also agreed to participate in the promotion of A.Human. We’re used to seeing this model in gorgeous dresses and rocking her golden locks in a variety of ways – both of which are occurring themes in her lookbooks.

This time, the model posed nude for the photo shoot and sported a simple, barely-there makeup look, and a serious facial expression. The focal point of the photos taken was certainly her shoulders. They were modified in a way that represented two sharp horns painted in a dreamy ocean-blue hue.

It really looked like some kind of prosthetics that’s used on the set of a sci-fi movie. The idea behind these implants? Like life, fashion can be unpredictable at times as well as incredibly wild, and the line between what’s real and what’s not is sometimes difficult to define.

Tan France’s ruffled Tudor collar

Whether or not it comes as a shock, the British-American fashion designer Tan France also chose to rock these modification accessories. It certainly garnered the attention of his fans, who were quick to point out how confusing his accessories were.

Although the shocking pictures of the designer wearing a ruffled Tudor collar certainly shook up the world of social media, we have to admit that it was done in a sci-fi movie worthy fashion.

Other honorable mentions that were used to promote the upcoming theatrical experience included biological heels that were implanted into the foot. As you can imagine, the majority of comments expressed concern, while some referred to the “accessories” as disgusting and outlandish.

Wrapping up

Being able to express yourself, to exist freely in this world, and to freely explore all that it has to offer – that is the message behind the artsy body modifications. Of course, Simon Huck’s vision of alien-like accessories wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea. But as grossed out as it made people feel, it certainly succeeded in its aim to draw attention and focus it on the event that was about to take place.
