Every article I have read about FlashPlayer assumes the use of a web browser to run .swf content. Virtually no article mentions the StandAlone FlashPlayer.
I use a .swf based application that uses the standalone FlashPlayer which is unaffected by the Windows updates that kill the browser-linked versions.
So far as I am aware, the SA FP doesn’t access the web at all, and the app will happily run on a disconnected laptop.
The app has its issues, and I did look for alternatives but none satisfied, so as the swf app is opensource, I took it upon myself to do some bugfixing and user enhancements over the last year, and the only significant issue I have now is inconsistent access to memory for a large bitmap needed as part of its operation, even though free RAM is plentiful. That would seem to be down to the SA FlashPlayer, which is a 64bit version running in 64bit Win10 Pro with 16GB RAM. As such FP should have access to as much memory as it needs subject to availability, but it limits itself to just 1.48GB, and I can’t even guarantee to get that even when nothing else is running, and Taskmanager says I have 10.5GB RAM unused.
So I am trying to find out more about the SA FP, and why it seems to be limiting itself in a manner that the non-SA FP was not (so far as I know).
