Every business understands the need for marketing. By investing in marketing, businesses can grow tremendously. However, a lot of people get stuck on how they can create a marketing plan. The key to creating a successful marketing plan is to know what you are dealing with within your business. You need to understand how things are working in your niche. To gain that sort of knowledge, what you would need is to ask yourself the following questions.
1. What want or need does your product or service fulfill?
Understanding that pain point that your business helps in fulfilling is the key to a successful marketing plan. You need to understand how you are helping your customers or clients. Ask yourself, what sort of business do you own? If your business revolves around a car wash, what you are really doing is to help people take care of their cars. If you are an online e-commerce store, you are saving people the work of going to a store to buy something.
2. What is your target market?
As a marketer, you need to understand where your target market is. You need to know where your target market is and what is it doing. Be it online or offline marketing, you need to know the location and traits of your target market. Taking on the car wash example, if you only operate in a certain state in a country, then your target market is only people who are living in that state. There is no point in marketing your service to people living in another state who will need to drive 4 hours to get to your shop. That is more pain than relief. Likewise, you need to know the demographics of your audience. For a car wash, do you think children are a target market? Or do you think it is adults? Do you think an advertisement selling to an adult will vary from when selling to a child?
3. Who are your competitors?
Spying on your competitors helps you in growing as a business. This is because it helps you in knowing what you are doing differently from your competitors and how you can make it better. Remember that there are direct and indirect competitors. Let us say your company produces orange juice. Now orange juice is a breakfast item. Another company that sells orange juice is your direct competitor. But are there any other breakfast items that can replace orange juice? Yes, milk! Milk would be your indirect competitor. By spying on your competitors, you can develop a USP. USP stands for a unique selling point and every business should have one. That is the sole reason that you take with yourself and ask people to choose your products over other people’s products.
4. What are the goals of your marketing campaign?
Every marketing campaign should come with a goal. You don’t want to be creating a marketing campaign that does not have any goal. What this means is that you should have the end result in mind before you get started with the campaign. Ask yourself, what are you trying to achieve through this marketing campaign? Do you want more sales or do you want to promote a new product that you just launched? Are you going to focus on branding? You can divide your marketing goals into two parts. The first is the long-term goals and the second is the short-term goals. Start with the long-term goals and then build your short-term goals upon them.
5. What is your social and search strategy?
Digital marketing, internet marketing, in particular, is more important today than ever before. However, it all comes down to two things – search and social. Search is your search engine. Social is social media. If you are not visible on these two platforms, you are not doing well. The question to ask yourself is where on search and social is your target audience. Are your potential customers spending time on Facebook or do you prefer LinkedIn? Do you think there is a way you can market your products or services on YouTube? These are all important questions to ask yourself for your social strategy. As for search, ask yourself what sort of terms your customers are searching for on search engines. What sort of content do your customers enjoy? Once you know that all, you should be able to build a strategy that connects well with your audience.
6. What is your strategy to build an online reputation?
It is important that your brand has a reputation. With the growing internet marketing industry, it is important that you have an online reputation. Before making any sort of purchase online, what do people do? They look at the reviews. Reviews are a great way to build an online reputation. The more reviews you have, the more credible your business looks. Likewise, you need to ask yourself what sort of platforms you need to be on in order to generate those reviews. You may have great reviews on Facebook but if you are operating in the B2B arena, there is no point in having those reviews if most of your audience is searching for you on LinkedIn.
7. What is your strategy to convert your leads to sales?
Every business must have a sales strategy. You may create great content online and your target audience may be viewing it, but how do you plan on converting those views into sales? A sales strategy is important in keeping the business going. You need to know the kinds of emails you need to create and the time after which you need to send them in order to achieve your sales goals. Be it new sales or up sales, you need to know how you plan on achieving your sales goals.
8. How do you build automated journeys?
You may be targeting your audience in different stages of conversion. However, what you really need to do is to build an automated journey. You need to build your platforms in a way that people view something from your side on Facebook. After a few days, they are retargeted on Facebook. This takes them to your website. There, they convert. This is just one example of how you can build automated journeys. Depending on the type of business you own, you will need to custom create your automation.
9. What content do you need to build?
You need to know the kind of content you need to build in order to generate leads through your marketing campaigns. What it means is that you will need to generate content that communicates well with your audience. Ask yourself, what sort of content should go on your website? If you have content already and want to paraphrase it, that’s also a good option. Go for it and create a unique article from the already well-written content.
10. Who is in charge?
Every marketing plan has to have someone who takes the charge of that marketing plan. This could be an agency, a person, or yourself, someone who keeps coming up with new ways to upgrade the marketing plan and keeps the game going.
