The Benefits of Baking With CBD

Baking with CBD is a delicious way to get your daily dose! You’ll get all the healing benefits of this natural remedy without the need for special equipment or tools.

Plus, who doesn’t love a good cookie or brownie?

Both THC and CBD extracted from the marijuana or hemp plant, but they have very different effects. Also known as cannabidiol, CBD is packed with natural medicine, but it won’t give you feelings of intoxication or euphoria that come with regular marijuana use.

Edibles take between 60 and 90 minutes to work, but their effects last longer than other options for taking CBD. Because they release slowly into your system, you’ll experience symptom relief for hours.

Since you are personally making and measuring each batch of oil and baked goods, cooking with CBD gives you more control over your dosage and serving size than using premade products.

This helps you reach your desired level of symptom relief without wasting oil. Plus, depending on what you’re baking, it’s easy to add other natural remedies to the mix!

And, while it might sound intimidating at first, CBD oil is easy to make at home. Just follow our simple instructions and no-fail recipe. We guarantee success, even if it’s your very first time!

How to Make Your Own CBD Oil

Making your own CBD oil is easy. Before you get started, assemble the following ingredients:

  • 2 cups coconut or olive oil
  • 1 ounce of hemp flower
  • Baking sheet
  • Double boiler
  • Herb grinder
  • Cheesecloth
  • Sealable container for storage

Making CBD Oil

Before you can start the cooking process, you’ll need to prep your hemp. Start by using an herb grinder to break the flower down into small pieces.

Once your hemp is ground, you’ll want to decarb in an oven.

The easiest way to decarboxylate is to spread your finely ground hemp over a metal baking sheet and bake at 225 degrees Fahrenheit for 60 minutes. Your hemp should be lightly browned, slightly crisped, but not burned.

As soon as you’re done “decarbing” the hemp, it’s time to get cooking! In our opinion, the best way to make CBD oil is the easiest. So, we’ll be using the double boiler method.

This process may seem intimidating to a total newbie, but we promise it’s simple. If you don’t own a double boiler, don’t worry! You can use a bowl and a saucepan just as easily.

Add your decarboxylated hemp and oil to the top of your double boiler, and water to the bottom. Then, set your stove to a low heat setting. You’ll want a flame strong enough to simmer but not boil your hemp and oil mixture.

Let the extraction process continue for two to three hours. You’ll need to add more water to the bottom of your double boiler occasionally. Plus, it’s essential to check your oil’s color and stir it often to prevent burning.

Once you’ve finished simmering your oil, strain it through a cheesecloth into your storage container. Don’t forget to squeeze as much oil as possible out of the hemp. And, keep in mind that a glass jar will preserve your CBD for much longer than plastic.

Discard the strained and oil-soaked hemp and store your finished CBD in a cool, dark space to extend its shelf life.

Keep in mind that CBD oil can be extracted from either hemp or marijuana flowers. And, the source will determine the effects of your oil.

Hemp plants contain a high CBD concentration and very little THC (below 0.3%). By using hemp rather than marijuana, you’ll get an oil that has a high level of CBD, with little to no THC.

Not sure how much CBD you should be taking? A good way to safely experiment with proper dosing is to try a few premade products. If you’re new to medical marijuana, try some CBD samples first!

Using your CBD Oil

Now that you know how to make your own CBD oil, you’re ready to bake. Here are some tips to help you get the best results.

Start off by using recipes designed to include CBD. Once you’ve mastered a few of these, you’ll be ready to start adding oil to your favorite cookies and cakes.

Baking CBD at a temperature over 320 degrees can destroy some of its active compounds. This will reduce their potency and effectiveness.

Consider your serving size. You should decide ahead of time how much CBD each serving will contain, and portion the recipe appropriately. If you’re new to using medical marijuana, start with 5mg or less in each serving.

Remember, it will take at least an hour for you to feel symptom relief. And, because CBD doesn’t get you high, you might not “feel” a significant change. So, be patient and don’t double dose.

Store your CBD baked goods in a cool, dark place. Light and heat can reduce their potency. And, an airtight container is best for keeping your treats fresh.

Because CBD edibles look just like ordinary sweets, you should store them safely out of reach and label them clearly. This is especially important if you have children and pets in the home.
