Previewing the Prestigious UK Horse Racing Events that Will be Followed Worldwide in 2024

Horse racing is deeply rooted in British sporting culture. It has taken place in a regulated format since the 17th century which has allowed some of the most prestigious events to be molded in the United Kingdom.

Each year, several major horse racing festivals take place in England, with each featuring one headline race that garners significant interest from all corners of the world.

Here we will look at the potential winners of the four biggest UK events this year – who could subsequently arise as some of the leading racehorses on the planet.

Galopin Des Champs is expected to win the Gold Cup again

The Gold Cup will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2024 which has the potential to make the winner all the more memorable.

Looking at the early betting markets for the event, there are expected to be some clear frontrunners this March. The Paddy Power horse racing odds suggest that last year’s champion Galopin Des Champs should secure a comfortable repeat victory, as he is offered as a massive -138 favorite.

Galopin Des Champs has entered 2024 in ideal form to prepare for the headline event having already won the Irish Gold Cup shown in the horse race results.

It would be a massive shock if the racehorse, who is viewed as one of the leading thoroughbreds on the planet, was pipped to victory. However, Fastorslow is offered at +400 and is most likely to take advantage of any setbacks the favorite encounters.

The Cheltenham Festival is one of the greatest festivals in the world in general for spectators to attend or watch from afar. It sits alongside the likes of Mardi Gras and Holi in ViralRang’s list of festivals that should not be missed around the world.

Top drama on the track is always a promise, but Cheltenham promises an experience like none other on the British racing calendar. There will be an unforgettable party atmosphere regardless of whether Galopin Des Champs wins again, or if there is an upset.

Last year’s Grand National top two to battle again

The Grand National is the most-watched UK horse racing event worldwide according to the BBC – in recent years it has been watched by an estimated 600 million people all around the globe.

The event held at Aintree holds significance to far more than the lucky in-person spectators. This year viewer numbers could even rise again, as horse racing fans will be desperate to see if Corach Rambler can secure a second straight success.

Last year’s champion is offered at +1200 to repeat the feat this year. Corach Rambler is the outright favorite in the early odds, although several key competitors lag just slightly behind.

Vanillier will perhaps provide the most intriguing opposition as the horse was ridden to a runners-up finish in Corach Rambler’s victorious 2023 entry. The horse has not won a race since 2021 and the April meeting at Aintree could be the perfect time to put an end to that in one of the world’s biggest races.

Life of Troy expected to extend 100% career record at Epsom

Onto the races with royal origins, the Epsom Derby has a significant outstanding favorite, like the Gold Cup.

City of Troy is offered at +200 to win the second leg of this year’s English Triple Crown of horse racing. The horse burst onto the scene in 2023, with three empathetic victories – a debut race at Curragh and two subsequent wins at Newmarket.

The Derby will of course be his biggest test yet, but after recording a 100% win record in his opening year, he is seen as the most likely to win the UK’s oldest major event.

Ascot Gold Cup frontrunners are not clear yet

With Royal Ascot’s main event – the Gold Cup – not taking place until the midpoint of 2024, the outright favorite is not clear-cut yet.

However, 2022 Gold Cup champion Kyprios will undoubtedly be in the running to achieve success in Ascot’s biggest race.

The Irish horse’s prior triumph came in a tight race where he got the better of three-time winner Stradivarius, as related on AP News.

Vauban is another entry for this year who can harbor genuine hopes of winning the event. The horse won the Copper Horse Handicap at Royal Ascot in 2023, and could now be in the running for the festival’s grandest prize.

The eyes of the world will be on all of these four events this year, with many potential narratives set to unfold. Rivalries will be revisited and major event debutants could rise as remarkable winners in front of evergrowing audiences scattered all around the planet.
