How to Select the Generac 3,300-Watt Portable Inverter Generator
Understanding Your Power Needs
Before purchasing the Generac 3300-Watt Inverter Generator, assess your power requirements:
- Calculate the total wattage of devices you plan to run simultaneously
- Remember that the 3300 watts refers to starting capacity, with continuous running power being slightly lower
- Consider if your needs are for emergency home backup, camping, tailgating, or other outdoor activities
- If you need more power, note that this model is parallel-ready, allowing you to connect two units for increased output
Key Features to Consider
The Generac GP3300i offers several important features that set it apart:
- TruePower Technology: Provides clean, stable power safe for sensitive electronics
- PowerRush Advanced Technology: Delivers over 50% more starting capacity for tools and appliances
- Economy Mode: Adjusts engine speed automatically to reduce fuel consumption
- COsense Technology: Monitors carbon monoxide levels and automatically shuts down if dangerous levels are detected
- USB Ports: Direct charging capability for mobile devices without adapters
Portability Factors
Consider these aspects of the generator’s portability:
- Weighing 59.5 pounds, it’s designed for reasonable portability
- Compact, fully enclosed design makes it easier to transport and store
- Check the dimensions to ensure it fits in your intended storage space
- Evaluate if the weight is manageable for your physical capabilities or if you’ll need assistance moving it
Noise Considerations
The Generac GP3300i is marketed as a “super quiet” generator:
- Inverter technology generally produces less noise than conventional generators
- Ideal for camping and outdoor events where noise restrictions may apply
- Economy mode further reduces noise by lowering engine RPM when full power isn’t needed
- Consider your noise tolerance and the environments where you’ll use the generator
Fuel Efficiency and Runtime
Understand the operational capacity:
- Uses gasoline as fuel source
- Economy mode extends runtime by optimizing fuel consumption
- Check the fuel tank capacity and estimated runtime at various load levels
- Consider how long you typically need power during outages or outdoor activities
Safety Features
The Generac GP3300i includes important safety features:
- COsense Technology: Critical for preventing carbon monoxide poisoning
- LED Indicators: Alert you to low oil, overload conditions, and operational status
- Automatic Voltage Regulation: Protects your devices from power fluctuations
- Enclosed Design: Reduces risk of burns and accidental contact with hot components
Maintenance Requirements
Consider the ongoing maintenance needs:
- Comes with initial engine oil, oil funnel, and tool kit
- Review the owner’s manual for maintenance schedule
- Check if you’re comfortable with basic maintenance tasks like oil changes
- Verify warranty coverage and service center availability in your area
Price and Value Considerations
Evaluate the overall value:
- Compare the price to other inverter generators with similar wattage
- Consider the Generac brand reputation for reliability
- Factor in included accessories (oil, funnel, tool kit)
- Weigh the cost against the features that matter most to you, such as portability, quiet operation, and safety features

Just purchased. Set up was fairly easy, although you have to remove the side cover to access the oil fill tube. Not a big deal, only 4 screws involved. I filled with ethanol-free gasoline. The choke dial is easy to use. It started fairly easily – second pull on first start. Subsequent starts required just one pull. The generator is very quiet and fairly portable for a 60 pound box. I have not had to use it yet for a power outage, but I feel confident that it will deliver good performance.

Buyer “BEWARE” I recieved this model and I will keep it but IT DOESN’T- have ECO mode like ad STATES !!!! So if ultimate efficiency is what you want CHOOSE another model !!!

Great generator. The power is consistent. The engine is quiet. It is easy to start. I have used it for two power outages, one was for six hours, one was for two hours and I still have gas in the tank. I haven’t had to fill it back up yet.

This Generac 3200i (2500-continuous watts) should do the trick the next time power goes out at our home. I wanted to buy a Honda EU2200i because of its quietness and reputation, but at 5500 feet altitude I didn’t think its 1800 continuous watts was up to running the gas furnace, the fridge, and a few lights and battery chargers. The Generac was $500 cheaper and nearly 40 percent more powerful.
Out of the box, I had to run at half choke for nearly a minute before it started to run normally. Otherwise, subsequent starting is a breeze. It’s wonderfully quiet as well; it definitely won’t bother us or the neighbors.
And I’m glad I got the bigger wattage. I tested it with several combinations of current draw. It will run two circular saws simultaneously, but the engine bogs way down and my in-line watt meter indicated supply reductions of several hundred watts. That’s not a problem for making a single cut but it would definitely be bad for the motors long-term. It powers either circular saw or a 1500-watt milk house heater just fine, but add any two in combination and it bogs down and doesn’t recover. The best it could do was to run a milkhouse heater on the low setting (1320 watts draw) and a 6-amp drill (630-watt draw) for a total draw of 1950 watts. That’s about right, given a 4 percent reduction in engine output per 1000 feet above sea level.
The Generac 3500XL I bought 35 years ago ran great until the plastic gas lines rotted out. I could have repaired the gas lines but I worried about how clean the power would be for electronics these days. This new 3300i isn’t pure-sine-wave output, but at 3 percent THD, it’s close enough. Thus far, it delivers exactly as advertised. My only wish is that it came with the switch to turn the eco mode off. That might help with starting in colder weather. Maybe that won’t be a problem, but I won’t know until our first winter comes along.

absolutely perfect little back up generator. it is a little on the heavier side, but fires up first pull every time its needed. super super quiet and takes no time to get it going. HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this unit to run some home objects when in need during a power outage or at tailgate. we ran our tv, wifi, refrigerator, a couple box fans and charged devices. this sucker used less than a gallon of gas in about 9 hours of running,

I bought this for emergency use, so fortunately I haven’t had to use it – yet. But I can say that it was an easy set up (thanks to a YouTube video – not the instructions it came with). And the price was great – Prime Day deal. I’m very glad I have this.

I love the convenience of this portable generator. I have used it for several hours now and no complaints. It’s easy to set up and use. It is so quiet.

I got this generator to use with my travel trailer because it has the ability to run the ac power with an adapter. Straight out of box the generator leaked fuel. I couldn’t return via Amazon because oil and fuel had been added; the only way I could make sure it worked prior to camping. Generac customer service is pretty terrible and not much help. Pretty much someone working at their house reading a script. They told me to take it to a local generac service repair shop. I have been waiting almost a month and they haven’t even looked at the generator. I am very disappointed in the way I have been treated with this expensive generator purchase. It does run quiet so once the fuel leak is repaired i am hoping all else is well.
