iRobot Roomba Y0140 Review: Smart, Powerful Vacuum + Mop

Try a bunch of lesser name robot vacuum but there was always issues with the app or the vacuum itself . The iRobot certainly does a great job sucking dust and it doesn’t get stuck everywhere neither do I have issues with the wifi . Very happy with my purchase and let’s hope it keep doing the job!!!

I bought the Room 692 Robot Vacuum in late June 2024 and after nearly a year I regret not returning it. I chose it because it promised strong pet-hair pickup and work well on mixed floors — I have two dogs, two kids, and a 2,400 sq ft open-plan home with mostly hard floors and carpeted bedrooms. On paper it seemed ideal; in practice it’s been a constant headache.

Navigation is terrible. The robot wanders, circles the same spot repeatedly, and often gets stuck or can’t find the charging base. Today it spent more than 30 minutes cleaning the same three-foot stretch and then died mid-job. It doesn’t reliably resume after recharging, despite that feature being advertised. It also won’t clean the whole house: it will obsess over one room while skipping others entirely. Because the 692 doesn’t map your home, you can’t send it to a specific room or direct it away from areas — it just bumps around randomly and seems to forget what it was doing after a charge.

I’ve tried all the usual fixes: repositioning the base, cleaning sensors and charging contacts, updating firmware, and replacing parts (filter, side brush, bristle roller, beater brush) with official components. Nothing improved the navigation or charging reliability. Most of the time I end up carrying it back to the charger. I genuinely spend more time managing this unit than I would just vacuuming myself.

Suction performance is disappointing. The advertised “power-lifting suction” feels like weak airflow. It struggles on low-pile carpet and is ineffective on high-pile. After a cleaning cycle I often run my full-size vacuum over the same areas and pull up far more hair and debris than the 692 collected. It’s also louder than I expected.

Edge cleaning is poor — the side brush misses corners and baseboards, especially around furniture and cabinets. Scheduling didn’t fix anything; daily or every-other-day runs still result in it getting trapped behind doors, under furniture, on cords, or falsely detecting drops where there are none.

For the price, lacking mapping and room-selection is a major flaw. I expected better from the iRobot name; this model feels like it relies on brand recognition rather than performance. Between the navigation problems, weak cleaning, and limited smart features, this robot has been more hassle than help.

Bottom line: I don’t recommend the Room 692, especially if you have pets, kids, or any standards for cleanliness. You’ll likely end up doing more work, not less.

This thing sucks and not in a good way. Where do I begin? I never owned Roomba before as this is my first one. I always thought their products were expensive, so I’ve always had off brand cheapo ones. So when there’s a sale with a mopping option, I’m sold!

Alright I thought you get what you paid for, but this is ridiculously! The setup was easy, install app, get updates, etc. I was excited to see this thing in action. I got this unit mainly for the mopping feature. Not even 5 minutes in, the dang thing is STUCK already. It really seems to prefer trying to get itself stuck so it doesn’t have to do any work.

So I moved it to another spot, same situation, always get itself stuck!! You really have to babysit this thing and that totally defeat the purpose of having an automated robot to do your dirty work while you spend time doing other stuff. The ONLY times it didn’t get itself stuck is in the bathroom where the area is SMALL.

And the mopping feature? Doesn’t work, right out of the box I haven’t seen one single drop of water and the tank is still FULL. It’s not rocket science to put this together so what gives??

Most likely I’ll try it out without the mopping option since it doesn’t work anyway so hopefully it won’t get stuck as often.

And oh right, did I mention this thing doesn’t even know how to get back home? I’ve placed it near the charger, it’s right there, press the home button and it just circles around like it’s confused. You’re better off manually placing this dumbo back. And yes it takes hours to recharge

Tiene más pros que contras. Al principio pensaba que no sería tan bueno, pero me ha sorprendido: estoy enamorada del producto. Me ayuda muchísimo, sobre todo porque casi siempre estoy ocupada con el trabajo, y deja la casa muy limpia. Espero que me dure mucho este equipo y que, si pasa algo, haya soporte en mi país. Lo malo es que tarda en volver a la base: va por todos lados menos a ella; a veces choca de lleno con los muebles y da la sensación de que no sabe volver, aunque otras veces funciona con mucho cuidado.

Our floors are noticeably cleaner now that we run this machine every few days. Because it’s around, we pay more attention to cords, cat toys and other small items that could tangle it up, so it also helps keep the house a bit tidier.

This model doesn’t map the house with cameras or satellites, and it doesn’t learn quickly—and I’m fine with that. It wanders from room to room in an apparently random pattern and reliably finds dirt, eventually covering most of the floor. We have two cats who find it loud and annoying but also oddly fascinating; they stalk it like predators assessing prey. They may one day attack it, but I suspect the Roomba would survive.

Cons:

• Somewhat loud — about as loud as a regular vacuum cleaner.
• Needs supervision — it can get stuck under furniture or make mistakes that could put it in danger. I block it from areas where it could fall, since I don’t fully trust the cliff-detection feature.
• App limits — the phone app seems to allow only one phone/account to control the vacuum, so only one household member can send it commands remotely. Not a big deal for us since the top-button start works fine.

Pros:

• It vacuums the house frequently so I don’t have to.
• It works like a persistent ten-year-old—maybe not perfect, but it keeps at it.
• Suction is good; it pulls dirt from deep rugs and does a decent job in corners.
• It climbs thresholds and handles our cat dishes fine—it nudges them a bit, then backs away.

Love my Robot vacuum. No more arguing between my kids over who vacuumed last and whose turn it is next. The robot vacuum does the job and doesn’t complain! I still clean it out after every use, but it is super easy to take apart and cut out hair strands, etc.

The inner flap on the receptacle that keeps the debris inside the canister broke off, but it still works and collects dust and debris well without it as long as it doesn’t get overfilled, which it shouldn’t if you use it regularly.

I am impressed by how well it maneuvers and always amazed by how much it collects, even with very regular use. For the cheapest version (this one is unable to map out rooms or zones, so you’ll have to just let it go do its thing on its own, or else move it to rooms manually and close it in to clean specific rooms), this is pretty good. Always leaves nice vacuum marks in carpets and rugs and does a good deep vaccum into the fibers. Better than my central vacuum’s beater head for sure!

There is still a level of cleaning and maintenance required (emptying after every use, cleaning and changing the filter regularly), but not a big deal and quick to do.

J’ai déjà 2 IRobot 694 (1 au sous- sol et 1 au 2ème ). Mais celui ci est le meilleure. Silencieux, nettoie très bien. La fonction vadrouille est tout simplement génial. Mes planchers sont toujours impeccable , surtout avec 2 chats . Il s’occupe du rez-chausse. Ah oui! Pour mes 3 IRobot, la programmation est vraiment utile.

I honestly don’t know how I lived without the iRobot Roomba—especially as a dog owner. I have a large, lovable furball who seems to shed enough to knit a second dog daily. Enter Roomba: the little hero that quietly saves my sanity every single day.

This thing picks up dog hair like a champ—from hardwood floors, rugs, corners, under furniture—you name it. I used to vacuum constantly just to keep the tumbleweeds of fur under control. Now I just schedule my Roomba, and it does the work while I’m doing anything else. It’s like having a tiny, tireless cleaning assistant.

The suction is surprisingly strong, and it navigates around obstacles like a pro. It even senses when it’s on carpet vs hard floor, and adjusts accordingly. And bonus: it’s way quieter than a traditional vacuum. My dog used to bark at vacuums—he barely even notices Roomba doing its thing.

I picked this model because it advertised being great for pet hair and a mix of flooring types. I have two dogs, two kids, and a 2,400 sq ft home with an open floor plan — mostly hard flooring with carpeted bedrooms. On paper, this seemed like the perfect fit. In reality? It’s been nothing but a headache.

Let’s start with navigation: it’s awful. This robot wanders aimlessly, circles the same areas repeatedly, and frequently gets stuck or lost trying to find its charging base. Just today, it spent over 30 minutes vacuuming the same three-foot stretch — nowhere near the dock — before dying mid-job. And no, it doesn’t resume cleaning after recharging, even though it’s supposed to.

It also doesn’t clean the whole house — not even close. There’s one room it insists on cleaning multiple times in a single cycle, while completely skipping others. There’s no way to “redirect” it or select specific rooms, because the 692 doesn’t have home mapping. You may think, Oh, it’ll get those missed rooms after it recharges. Unfortunately, you’d be wrong. It restarts like it has no memory of what it was doing before.

I’ve repositioned the charging base, cleaned the sensors and charging contacts, updated the firmware — nothing has improved its navigation or charging reliability. Most of the time, I end up having to pick it up and carry it back to the charger myself. I genuinely spend more time managing this vacuum than it would take me to just clean the floors myself.

I’ve tested this by running my regular vacuum after the Roomba “finished” cleaning — and the amount of pet hair and debris left behind is honestly ridiculous. And yes, I’ve done the upkeep: I’ve cleaned the filters, rollers, sensors, and brush. I’ve even replaced the filter, side brush, bristle roller, and beater brush — all with official parts. No improvement. It is also very loud when it runs.

The edge sweeping brush is another disappointment. Don’t expect clean corners or anything near baseboards. It misses those completely, especially around furniture or along cabinets.

I initially had it scheduled to clean daily. Then I tried every other day, hoping it would help with the constant errors and getting stuck. Spoiler: it didn’t. It still traps itself behind doors, under furniture, on cords — and for some reason, it thinks it’s falling off a cliff despite there being no stairs or thresholds in the house.

Another big limitation: the 692 doesn’t map your home. That means you can’t set it to clean specific rooms or avoid areas. It just bumps around randomly, and you hope for the best. For this price point, that’s a major flaw.

At the end of the day, I expected better from the iRobot brand. This vacuum feels like it coasts on name recognition, not actual performance. Between the constant issues, the weak cleaning ability, and the lack of smart features, this robot has been more hassle than help.

Bottom line: I do not recommend this vacuum — especially if you have pets, kids, or any sort of standards. You’ll end up doing more work, not less.

Works great. It generally travels in a straight line (depending on the starting angle) and maneuvers around objects, but it struggles with cords and small throw rugs — I used inexpensive pool noodles to keep it away. The mopping feature works well; I placed a damp paper towel between the pad and the snap-on plastic piece to even out the moisture distribution. You can see a streak at first and adjust accordingly. The vacuuming is excellent, especially at the end when it runs around the perimeter and returns to its dock.

I had tried a cheap Chinese sweeper before that caused constant problems and actually made me work more. This Roomba has truly made my life easier — it does its job exceptionally well, lightens my load, and I love it.

My Roomba has been a total game-changer for keeping my house clean, especially as a cat owner. Before I got it, I felt like I was constantly vacuuming to keep up with cat hair and litter. Now? I just press a button or start a cleaning session through the app, and the Roomba takes care of it for me.

The mop function is another amazing bonus. It leaves my floors feeling squeaky clean, everything looks and feels so fresh after it’s done.

Cleaning the Roomba itself is super easy. It even comes with a tool to cut hair out of the brush (a must with pets!), and the filter is simple to empty. It’s all designed to be pretty low-effort, which I really appreciate.

I also love that it automatically returns to its charger when it’s done. Occasionally, it’ll get stuck somewhere and need a little help finding its way back, but the app notifications are immediate, and the Roomba also makes a noise to let me know. It’s super easy to check the app, locate it, and get it going again.

Honestly, this has been such a great addition to my life, especially since I struggle with depression. Some days, it’s hard for me to keep up with chores – but with my Roomba, I can at least feel like my home is a bit cleaner, even on my tough days. It’s such a relief to have something that helps take that burden off my shoulders.

If you have pets, a busy schedule, or just need some extra help with cleaning, I can’t recommend this enough!
