Introduction

The Roomba Plus 405 Combo is a robot vacuum and mop combo designed to handle everyday dirt, spilled coffee, pet hair and scuffed floors with minimal babysitting. It pairs a more powerful suction system with spinning mop pads and targeted scrubbing, then returns to an AutoWash dock that handles emptying and pad care.

This model is aimed at busy households that want hands-off floor care across mixed surfaces — especially homes with pets and frequent small messes. Quick verdict: If you want a largely self-maintaining robot that vacuums and aggressively mops, the Roomba Plus 405 Combo is a practical, feature-rich choice.

What’s in the Box

  • 1 Roomba Plus 405 Combo robot
  • 1 AutoWash dock
  • (Other accessories and consumables: Not specified)

Design & Build

The Roomba Plus 405 Combo follows a familiar circular robot silhouette but adds a low-profile mop assembly beneath the chassis. The main outer shell appears to be hard plastic with a glossy top and tactile buttons for one-touch control; specific materials and finish details are not specified. Build quality looks utilitarian and focused on ease of cleaning — the mop pads and brushes are removable, and the dock houses mechanical and fluid-handling components.

Size and weight: exact dimensions and weight are not listed, so you should assume standard mid-size robot proportions. The low profile helps it slide under most sofas and cabinets, while the rounded edges and modest height reduce the risk of getting stuck. Ergonomically, the controls are simple: app control plus direct buttons on the unit. The AutoWash dock is a separate, larger unit that requires dedicated floor space near an outlet.

Key Features

Strong suction and multi-surface cleaning

Benefit: The Roomba Plus 405 Combo emphasizes stronger suction for lifting fine debris and pet hair from carpets and hard floors. The manufacturer compares its suction to older Roomba 600-series models, claiming a substantial increase, which translates to fewer passes to remove embedded dirt. This helps when you need one-pass pickup of crumbs or daily pet shedding.

Where it helps: Kitchens after meals, entryways with tracked-in grit, and homes with shedding pets that need reliable pickup without constant manual vacuuming. (source: listing, checked 2025)

Advanced mopping — DualClean Mop Pads + SmartScrub

Benefit: DualClean mop pads spin and apply downward pressure while SmartScrub increases scrubbing action, designed to tackle dried-on spots like coffee rings and tracked mud. The pads can be used with water or a cleaning solution, providing flexibility depending on floor type and stain severity.

Where it helps: Hard floors with sticky spills, around pet bowls, or in high-traffic areas where grime builds up. The extra scrubbing is useful when a surface needs more than a wipe rather than a full wet mop session. The manufacturer claims the system provides “2x deeper scrubbing” compared to its standard vacuum-and-mop mode (source: listing, checked 2025).

ClearView LiDAR mapping and navigation

Benefit: A LiDAR-based mapping system scans the home to create an efficient cleaning path, reducing redundant passes and improving coverage. This kind of mapping enables consistent room-by-room cleaning and smoother obstacle avoidance.

Where it helps: Homes with multiple rooms, furniture layouts that would confuse simpler random-drive robots, and households where you want predictable results and the ability to send the robot to specific rooms on demand.

AutoWash Dock: emptying, washing, and drying

Benefit: The AutoWash dock is a major convenience feature: it auto-empties the robot’s dust bin, periodically washes and refreshes the mop pads, and dries them so the unit is ready for the next run. iRobot states the dock supports up to 75 days of auto-emptying and about 4 weeks’ worth of mopping and pad washing under a specific usage pattern (source: listing, checked 2025).

Where it helps: Users who dislike handling dust bags or rinsing dirty mop pads after each use — families, allergy sufferers, or anyone seeking lower maintenance day-to-day.

Flexible cleaning modes and carpet-auto lift

Benefit: The robot offers vacuum-only, mop-only, combo cleaning, or a sequence where it vacuums first then mops. Mop pads also auto-lift when the robot detects carpet to prevent wetting rugs and carpets.

Where it helps: Mixed-surface homes where you want continuous transitions between vacuuming and mopping without manual intervention. This is handy when you’re running a whole-home clean and don’t want to block off carpets.

Customizable cleaning: suction levels and repeat passes

Benefit: Choose among multiple suction settings (the listing mentions four levels) and program repeat passes or extra scrubbing in high-traffic areas. These options put more control in your hands to prioritize quiet operation, battery life, or deep cleaning.

Where it helps: Tailoring the robot’s behavior to specific rooms — higher suction for carpets or pet areas, lower suction for quiet overnight runs, and repeat passes for entryways that get dirty faster.

Clean Zones, Keep Out Zones, and smart scheduling

Benefit: Use the app to set Clean Zones to target problem spots and Keep Out Zones to protect fragile areas or stop the robot from entering rooms. Scheduling through the Roomba Home app is straightforward and gives time estimates so you know how long a job will take.

Where it helps: Directing the robot to kitchen spills or preventing it from disturbing baby play areas and pet bowls. Useful for fine-grained control when room-by-room cleaning matters.

Three-way control: voice, app, or onboard buttons

Benefit: Start, pause or schedule cleaning using a voice assistant, the Roomba Home app, or the robot’s onboard controls. Multiple control options mean the robot adapts to how you prefer to manage tasks.

Where it helps: Hands-off households that want voice convenience, people who prefer app customization, and those who just want a quick press of a button on the robot.

Performance & Use

Setup is straightforward: place the AutoWash dock against a wall near a power outlet, position the robot on the dock to charge and register it to the Roomba Home app. The app guides you through mapping and initial runs; LiDAR mapping typically completes in the first couple of cleans to build an accurate floor plan.

Daily use: run a scheduled clean or launch a specific room clean when needed. The AutoWash dock reduces hands-on chores by handling debris disposal and mop pad maintenance. For mopping, you can use plain water or a compatible cleaning solution; the listing allows both options (source: listing, checked 2025). Take care with sensitive floor finishes — always test any cleaning solution in a small area first.

Maintenance tips:

  • Check and replace filters and brush components per the app’s health indicators.
  • Empty any remaining debris reservoir if prompted, though the base handles most auto-emptying needs.
  • Inspect mop pads periodically for wear; even with automatic washing, pads will eventually need replacement.
  • Keep the dock’s water/solution reservoir and drainage areas clean to prevent odors.
  • Update firmware through the app to get navigation and feature improvements.

Practical notes:

  • The pad auto-lift avoids wetting carpets, but some high-pile rugs may still confuse the robot. Use Keep Out Zones where necessary.
  • For very stubborn, set-in stains you’ll still need a manual treatment — the robot is designed for regular maintenance and spill management rather than heavy restoration.

The Roomba 405 has been a lifesaver in our house. Setup was quick, intuitive and the app made it easy to map out rooms and set custom zones. I love that it can vacuum and mop in one go without me having to do anything. The mop actually scrubs instead of just dragging water around, which makes a huge difference on our floors.

Firstly, the performance of the 405 is truly impressive. It does a fantastic job of picking up everything on both my floors and carpets. The suction power is noticeably stronger than the j series, which is a big plus. Additionally, the new rotating mopping pads are excellent at tackling stains and leave my floors with a beautiful shine. Navigation is also amazingly great, new lidar is a big change but if you have small objects laying around or a lot of wires around go with the 505 instead.

The base of the 405 is another highlight. It not only allows the robot to operate autonomously for days but also self-cleans, eliminating the need for frequent maintenance. This is a significant plus over other brands, where you need to clean the mopping pad system often.

However, there is one aspect I’m not entirely sold on – the refresh system for the mopping pads. Since there is no water tank on the actual robot, you have to decide via the app how many square feet the robot will clean before returning to the base to refresh the pads and self-clean. This process takes a bit more time, especially if you have a large area to cover. But I do see the advantage of this system, as it prevents spreading filth around, which can happen with models that have a water tank directly on the robot.

Lastly, the app has its pros and cons. While it offers some great features, there is definitely room for improvement. I’m hopeful that we’ll see some updates and enhancements to it in the near future.

All in all, for the price, the 405 is a strong 5-star product. It offers great performance, a low noise level compared to the j series and requires minimal maintenance.

The worst Roomba I’ve ever had.

    – The app is terrible. Since it’s impossible to use this Roomba without the app, the entire device becomes useless.
    – The Roomba’s own software is also awful. After just two months of use, it got stuck rotating in one place, with all buttons unresponsive.

This is an amazing product! I don’t like vacuuming and like mopping even less. This the perfect solution. It was easy to set up and mapped my downstairs quickly. I named her Flo. Being able to designate extra clean and keep out zones is so helpful. I have a thick lightweight throw rug it would just push out of the way. I made a keep out zone for that throw rug and now it just cleans around it. I have lots of other obstacles for it to navigate around and does it with ease. The mopping feature is impressive in how well it actually cleans the floors. The smart scrub feature is so cool. Mopping once a week, the self cleaning and drying mop heads makes it truly hands off for a month. My only regret is that I didn’t get one sooner.

Great machine, I have purchased Lydsto mop and vacuum before. This iRobot version is much more reliable, and it does help me to keep the house clean. Got it during Prime Day with a good deal

I just got the Roomba 405 plus a couple of days ago, and it really feels like a big upgrade compared to my old Roomba. The app is way better than what I had before. I like that I can split larger spaces into separate rooms and tell it where to mop, where to vacuum, or where to do both. That’s made it a lot more flexible and useful than just setting it loose and hoping it gets everything. And scheduling the cleaning has been pretty easy.

The navigation is another noticeable improvement. My old Roomba basically just wandered around and turned at odd angles after bumping into walls. This one actually goes abut cleaning in a more organized way, and it looks like it knows where it is going instead of just guessing. It makes the whole process feel quicker and more efficient.

Mapping was easy as well. This new Roomba seems to actually “see” the space as opposed to just bumping into walls and objects to identify where it is.

The cleaning performance has been solid it’s picked up crumbs and messes without much effort. The one challenge is my dog. He thinks we brought home a new toy, so he’s constantly chasing after it. That means I can really only run it at night when he’s in another part of the house. It’s a little annoying, but honestly, it’s still worth it for much cleaner the floors look.

The Roomba 405 is a definite step up from what I had before. Between the upgraded app, smarter navigation, and solid cleaning, it makes keeping the house clean a lot easier and less time consuming.

This Roomba has evolved from the humble vacuum I owned many years ago, to a simpler, easier and much more effective robot. Not sure if it has AI as part of its operating system but it certainly knows how to get the job done. It sweeps up the floors as well as any broom, it mops the tile and vacuums the carpets. The app is easy to use and can quickly be configured to tell Roomba where to operate and where to avoid. There is no need for the annoying physical markers from yesteryear, this unit can detect stairs and avoid them. It automatically detects carpet and retracts mop heads and switches to vacuum. Tanks are easy to fill and also clean. This Roomba is a real helper, a genuine robot that makes keeping your home clean a lot easier.

I absolutely love my new Roomba! Best floor-cleaning helper ever!

I bought this Roomba to help with the chore I like the least – mopping. First, I did a little research, and I decided to spend a little more on this model because I liked the spinning mop pads, figuring they would do a better job scrubbing my floors to my satisfaction. Plus, the auto-washing base is magical and a must-have. It takes care of refreshing the mop pads while it’s cleaning so it’s not continually mopping with gross, dirty pads. And when it’s all done, it will wash and dry them too! No need for me to do it! The base also runs a self-cleaning cycle, that way it doesn’t get musky or mildewy. It’s pretty much a hands-free system. All I do is fill the water tank when needed and empty the dirty when it gets full. Easy-peasy.

I can set up a cleaning schedule, but mostly I just start cleaning from the app, or use voice commands. I found everything very easy to set up. It literally mapped my home in minutes and was ready to go!

Overall, I’m very impressed with how well it cleans. The vacuum takes care of all those little fluffies and hairs and little bits on the day-to-day. It automatically boosts power on the carpet by my entrance and will lift the pads in the back, so nothing gets wet. The robot will also empty itself into the base for months before I’ll need to worry about removing the bag.
The only hiccups I’ve had were when it sucked up my bathmat and got stuck. I got an alert on the app. I know now that it’s too light and I’ll need to put it up from now on. It also got too close to some power cords under my entertainment unit. However, the app lets you create Keep Out zones, so once I placed one over the area I wanted it to stay out, and haven’t had any problems since.

Roomba saves me so much time fussing with my floors. It’s only been a short time but I’m very pleased with the performance. When I come home it feels fresh and clean. It’s a relief to not worry about running a vacuum or dragging out the mop because it’s already taken care of.

This robot vacuum has been a huge help in keeping my floors clean. It has strong suction power, navigates well around furniture, and does a thorough job on both hardwood and carpet. The dustbin and self-emptying feature are very convenient, making maintenance easy.

The only downside is that it sometimes loses connection with Wi-Fi, which can be a little frustrating when trying to control it through the app. However, once it’s running, it works reliably and delivers excellent cleaning results.

Overall, I’d give it 4 stars — it’s an effective, time-saving vacuum with just a small connectivity issue that I hope can be improved with updates.

I’m absolutely thrilled with my new Roomba! Having owned one in the past, I can confidently say this model is the G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time). The setup was incredibly easy and it was ready to clean right out of the box. The Roomba does a fantastic job of cleaning, keeping me updated on its progress every step of the way. I’m especially impressed with how it navigates my home—it skillfully avoids furniture and even my pets. It also handles area rugs with no problem, leaving them looking fresh and clean. The biggest benefit for me is the time it saves. It’s a huge time-saver that has completely changed my cleaning routine. I don’t have to worry about manually vacuuming or mopping the main areas of my house anymore, which gives me more time for other activities. As for the noise level, it’s perfectly fine. It’s a vacuum, so I expect some noise, but it’s actually quite soothing to hear it working and knowing my floors are getting clean. The self-cleaning feature is a fantastic bonus. I love the versatility of the Roomba. I’ve used it to clean individual rooms, run a vacuum-only cycle, and even do a spot clean, and it has performed flawlessly in every task. This Roomba is an easy-to-use and highly effective tool that has made a noticeable difference in my life.

I was anxious when unboxing the Roomba 405 and when I noticed that there was instruction manual other than the basic instructions on a box flap. Little did I know instructions aren’t needed as the Roomba sets itself up through the app. It mapped my home within minutes without having to investigate the entire perimeter. The first cycle was a “standard“ vac and mop. The Roomba performed well, especially the vacuum, which did a thorough job vacuuming the cat hair, scattered litter, sand, and dust created by the resident felines. Them mopped did a good job although I did notice that some residue from the tougher spots remained after the cycle. Next, I’ll try those deep clean option to see how it does. Other than that, the Roomba is very easy to use – you tell it what to do and it does it, including returning to the base to charge if needed and to empty the dirty mop water. It even cleans and dries them mop pads after use. I definitely recommend for maintaining a generally clean home and look forward to learning what else it can do.

Great experience with the iRobot Roomba Plus 405. The set up via the app were easy to navigate and utilize. Mapping was accurate. Being able to choose either vacuum, mop, vacuum & mop, and vacuum then mop makes cleaning efficient and convenient. Self-cleaning makes this even more convenient to the point where I can set it and forget it. The suction for the vacuum is strong and takes care of my space well. The mopping works as advertised and the dual spinning pads do a great job of cleaning up the spots quickly. Being able to lift the pads when encountering carpet is another great feature. Overall I am very satisfied with what this vacuum/mop has done in its first few days out of the box.
