Understanding Your Power Needs
Before purchasing the Westinghouse 13500 Peak Watt Dual Fuel Generator, assess your power requirements. With 13500 peak watts and 10500 running watts on gasoline (12500 peak/9500 running on propane), this generator can handle substantial household loads. Make a list of essential appliances you’ll need during outages, including refrigerators, heating systems, well pumps, and lighting. Calculate their combined wattage to ensure this generator meets your needs.
Dual Fuel Capability: Advantages and Considerations
The dual fuel feature offers significant flexibility:
- Gasoline provides maximum power output (13500 peak watts)

David McKinney –
Purchased this generator to use as a whole house backup after having dealt with several recent outages thanks to the oh-so-reliable Texas grid. Got a great price from Amazon and ordered over labor day weekend but was not expecting to see it for at least a month or two due to it being back ordered. Surprisingly I received a shipping notification from Amazon after only about two weeks. While this was great, the delivery company took almost two weeks to deliver and required three resets of the delivery appointment time which was a bit frustrating. Upon delivery the box had some tears and bruises so i wanted to check it out before accepting. The delivery guys were very patient while I opened the box and unpacked enough to determine that the generator was in pristine condition and had suffered no damage during shipment. Documentation is good and assembly to make run was very easy. Since hurricane season is winding down and the unit will hopefully go immediately into storage I used propane to test and do the break-in. The battery was pretty much fully charged and the unit started up on the first try. I am using a 50 amp inlet box and a interlock device on my breaker panel. The unit so far has run the majority of my house without showing any sign of strain or stress. Pending installation of a soft start device i have not tried to run a 3 ton central A/C unit, but with what I have seen so far I believe this generator should be able to handle it without a problem.
The generator comes with pretty much every accessory needed. Although it weighs 230 lbs. the wheel kit and handle make it easy to move around. It comes with a propane hose with regulator in addition to a natural gas hose. Everything needed (except fuel obviously) to get this unit running was included in the box! So far I am very pleased with everything about this generator. It looks great, runs great, and comes equipped with every option I think I will ever need.
Post testing update: During break-in and further testing I noticed that based on the on-board meter the no-load frequency was running about 63.5 Hz and with about 50% load only dropped to 62.8 Hz. This seems a bit high to me. I have battery back-ups on all of my computer equipment and all of them alarmed and kicked over to battery power whenever the frequency got above 62.9 Hz (The back-ups are all spec’d. at 60 +/- 3 Hz). I contacted Westinghouse support and asked if there was a way to reduce the generator rpm which would reduce the frequency. They advised that there was not a way to reduce the rpm’s and furthermore that this unit was not designed to power “sensitive” electronics and that I should upgrade to a unit with lower total harmonic distortion or an inverter generator (both more expensive). I am very disappointed in this resolution. As this unit is advertised to be used as a home emergency back-up generator I think hey should be more upfront about its limitation to power electronics (almost every appliance in a modern household has electronic controls now). Also I cannot believe that they would produce a motor that does not have some way of adjusting rpm which would directly control the output frequency and voltage. While I do still believe that this is a powerful and quality generator, I am not comfortable that I am getting correct information from Customer Service and if I am, I am not sure this is a generator that should be used to power a home without risking damage to appliances.

I just purchased this generator in early July., to replace a similar (but only dual-fuel) Westinghouse generator that was flooded and ruined by Hurricane Helene in September 2024. Needless to say, I am firmly committed to this generator brand. The basic assembly instructions (wheels, forward supports, etc.) are easy to understand and follow. Once prepared, the new generator started immediately from the remote start button and ran flawlessly without a hiccup. The previous generator was very dependable and always started and ran perfectly every time I needed it (which turned out to be pretty often, given the violent thunderstorms in Tampa Bay). The instrumentation panel on the new one is logical, intuitive, and has a large number of different output plugs from 240V/50 amp to two USB ports for DC electronics. It interfaces very well with the installed generator interlock system on the master circuit breaker panel of my home,, so I can seamlessly connect it to my “whole house” circuitry, rather than running extension cords everywhere. I won’t use it to run the central HVAC (not enough power), but it will run a few portable HVAC units I’ve placed in different rooms and other things simultaneously, so we can sleep comfortably even if the main power is off.
I short – I would buy this generator again — and did. Hats off to Westinghouse.

Starts like a champ and is so much quieter than I expected. So glad I bought this, as opposed to some “cheaper” models that were available. Professionally designed, it serves as a great standby generator for my Florida home. Plenty of power to run almost everything in my house. Built to last. I couldn’t be much happier. After considering multiple options for whole-home automatic generators, in addition to other standby generators, I realized that this Westinghouse standby, with its tri-fuel capability, was exactly what I needed. The quality and built-in features make it “first in class!”

We had a 15-year-old whole house generator that finally failed. The replacement was much too expensive, so we decided to purchase this Westinghouse generator. We are really happy with it. It was easy to install and setup. Since we already had a transfer switch from the old generator, we connected this new generator through the transfer switch. We had to remove the bonded ground in the generator since the transfer switch does not switch the neutral wire. We are running it on natural gas but also tested it on propane. It ran well on both fuels.
It is very well made. It is heavy but can be easily moved around since it has sturdy wheels and a strong foldable handle.

Initial quality. This is my second Westinghouse of this size, and there are significant improvements on the last one that cost about the same. Improvements: Remote start fob. Start button and on/off switch instead of a 3-way rocker that got sticky. Tri-fuel. Improved display.
I used Amazon’s room delivery service to get it here quickly. They transported the box to the back yard, and I put it together.
It is about as heavy a generator as I can handle. Just a bit of back strain getting it onto the pad after putting the wheels on. It is also quite loud.
It fired right up the first time after adding almost the quart of oil and going through the checklist.
It handled a 30% load very well the second time I fired it up.
The line quality is not great for sensitive equipment, and I knew this going in. For sensitive electronics, it is best to be running a live UPS (always converting AC-DC-AC), instead of just switching to battery on failure. A standard UPS will click on and off constantly under a low load. The line power gets cleaner the heavier the load. With the AC on, my standard UPS is not triggered. I plug in a small Bluetti (like a Jackery) to serve as the live UPS when I’m running the generator. It’s just a 247ah box that can put out 600W.

Serious generator. We bought this last year as a backup for the house. It’s a monster. Used for 2 power outages with zero hiccups. We have it hooked up to the gas line for fuel. The remote start works perfectly, and the generator provides more than enough to power all the essentials and more. Portability is a huge bonus. It’s seen use to power an outdoor rock concert on the beach, and all the power tools needed for an off-grid cabin build. So far has run flawlessly on NatGas, Propane, and Gasoline. Delivery was completed on schedule. They rolled it up the driveway into the garage on a pallet jack and took the pallet with them when the left. 👍💯%

I’m impressed with this generator – it’s robust and delivers strong performance. The push-button start is convenient, and I appreciate the versatility of using gasoline, propane, or natural gas. Currently using propane, though I might switch to gasoline when maximum power is needed.
The upgrades from my previous generator are significant – the hour counter and remote start functionality make operation simpler and encourage proper maintenance.
During testing with our home, it successfully powered all essential outlets, lights, and our water heater. Since we have a well system, I needed to toggle between the well pump and water heater. Our heat pumps required similar management, running one at a time, but this is vastly preferable to having no power at all!
I’ll provide further feedback after experiencing an actual power outage, which happens fairly frequently in our area.

Exceptional value for money with outstanding quality. Setup was incredibly simple – just 3 steps to get it operational. I tested it with propane to avoid gas-related maintenance issues, and it started immediately on the first try. All connected devices worked flawlessly. This Westinghouse generator stands out for its superior build quality, competitive pricing, and user-friendly design compared to more expensive brands with fewer features.
As an experienced generator user, I can confirm this is the easiest one I’ve ever set up. Despite its size, it runs remarkably quietly, likely due to the rubber mounts and solid frame construction. Absolutely no regrets with this purchase – it exceeded all my expectations.

The generator arrived two days ahead of schedule. Assembly took around 30 minutes. While it’s a heavy unit, attaching the wheels and legs was straightforward. When adding the included oil, use caution as the machine already contains some oil – I only needed slightly more than 1 quart of the 1.25 quarts provided. I ordered the Dual Fuel model but was pleasantly surprised with a free upgrade to the Tri Fuel version. Though natural gas isn’t available in South Florida where I live, it’s nice to have that option if I ever relocate. I also purchased a 40-gallon propane tank which, despite being heavy when full, offers convenient all-in-one fuel storage. The generator started immediately during my 30-minute test run, maintaining a steady idle without any sputtering or stalling. The construction quality is excellent, and the shipping package arrived in perfect condition.

I purchased the Westinghouse 13500 Peak Watt Dual Fuel Portable Generator for home backup during power outages and am extremely satisfied with my choice. The generator features excellent construction quality, convenient remote electric start, and seamless compatibility with my home transfer switch.
I was pleasantly surprised to receive a complimentary upgrade to the tri-fuel version, allowing me to operate the unit on gasoline, propane, or natural gas. This versatility provides exceptional flexibility depending on fuel availability and pricing.
The generator delivers sufficient power to run critical household appliances including refrigerator, lighting, internet equipment, and even HVAC when necessary. Despite its powerful performance, the noise output remains reasonable, and the integrated wheels and handles provide good mobility despite its substantial size.
In summary, this generator is exceptionally powerful, and the tri-fuel upgrade makes it an outstanding value. I strongly recommend it for anyone seeking dependable backup power with multiple fuel options.

This generator is a powerhouse! It arrived in excellent condition with clear instructions, making assembly straightforward. I purchased the 13500 tri-fuel model. Initial setup with propane was simple, using the included hoses. After charging the battery, it started immediately with just a button press. When tested under load, the engine ran smoothly without the fluctuations I experienced with previous brands. I was impressed by the inspection stamps and quality control checks visible on various components, indicating thorough quality assurance. Despite its weight, it’s relatively easy to maneuver. The unit has fully met my expectations regarding the Westinghouse brand’s reliability.

The 10500TFc generator arrived after a two-week delivery delay, ultimately being dropped off on a skid in front of my garage. Moving it was manageable using carts until unpacking. Assembly was straightforward – just attaching feet and wheels following the comprehensive user manual. After adding the included oil and gasoline per instructions, the generator started immediately. I ran it for 30 minutes to verify proper operation. The generator appears very sturdy and high-quality, confirming our extensive research that this was the optimal choice. While I haven’t tested it under full load yet, I expect flawless performance based on my experience so far. Will provide updates if necessary.

I purchased this generator as a replacement for my 20-year-old unit. The tri-fuel option was a major selling point, as I’ll primarily be using propane. After installation and connection, I immediately noticed it runs much quieter than my old generator and offers more features, including a 50A plug.
During testing, the generator smoothly transitioned to power the entire house. It effortlessly handled the air conditioning when the HVAC kicked on, and continued to perform well when I added the oven, microwave, and various lights and appliances to the load. After running for 30 minutes, it managed the household power demands excellently. I’m hoping this reliable unit will last another 20+ years!
