When people get together like this, it’s no wonder that some interesting stories are generated! Read on to find out more about some of the best casino-based tales around!
The Lady and the Craps
Craps is a dice game in which players must wager on the outcome of the roll of a pair of dice or a series of rolls. Players can also wager money against each other’s bets if they want to turn things up a notch! In 2009, Patricia DeMauro made a name for herself after one particularly impressive game of craps. DeMauro was just a loving grandmother from New Jersey, who decided to try her luck at the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City – with staggering effects!
Over the course of just four hours and 18 minutes, Patricia DeMauro wound up setting a world record – throwing the dice 154 times and not even once hitting a total of seven! To put that into context, the chances of that happening are 1 in 1.56 trillion! DeMauro’s winnings are unknown – with some speculating that it was hundreds of thousands, and others claiming that it reached a million! Either way, there’s one thing for sure, DeMauro did the impossible that day!
Longest Poker session
Phil Laak is well-known as a professional Poker player, and what’s more, one that sets world record! In 2010, Laak set the record for the longest single session of Poker that’s ever been played. The player is known as the “Unabomber”, and on that day, he managed to withstand an amazing 115 hours of gameplay at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. Laak set this record for charity, donating all of his winnings to Camp Sunshine, along with various donations that were made by spectators.
The Unabomber wasn’t allowed any caffeine or stimulants during his record-attempt – he was merely offered a five-minute break every hour, of which he declined, choosing instead to save them up and have 30-minute naps instead. Laak even generated an extra $1000 donation in the middle of the game, by doing a few dozen push-ups, to prove his physical health. Over 130 thousand people watched the feat over a live stream, and by the end, the charity organization received more than $3000!
The Ruler of Roulette
Arguably, some people would say that Gonzalo Garcia Pelayo managed to beat Roulette, with the use of his mathematical skills. Pelayo made huge profits from the game using his very own betting method, based on statistical analysis on the probability of certain numbers coming up. After gathering data from thousands of spins for years, he decided that a Roulette table at the Gran Madrid Casino favored certain numbers the most.
At the end of 1991, Pelayo began playing at the Gran Madrid Casino and won roughly 70 million pesetas by the following year, which works out as roughly $700,000 at that time. Eventually, the strategist was winning so much money at this venue, that they had to ban him! We suppose they do say that success comes with its troubles!
