IT specialists are in demand in Qatar, as well as architects, engineers, professional welders, and other specialists required for construction projects. The country was actively preparing for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, so many new sports and infrastructure facilities were being built here. However, the most significant number of vacancies for those wishing to find a job in Qatar is in the tourism and service sector.

Since April, schools and kindergartens have been recruiting for the new school year. As a result, there are vacancies for teachers in Qatar in various specialties, ranging from early childhood education specialists to secondary and high school teachers.

Among the main requirements for applicants are the age of 21 years and older, documents confirming qualifications and experience in the chosen field, and excellent knowledge of English.

Features of employment

A distinctive feature of Qatar is that locals work mainly in managerial positions, while immigrants work in other situations. As a result, the percentage of migrants employed in various sectors of the economy exceeds 94%. Moreover, given the country’s dependence on foreign labor, there is a well-established mechanism for hiring people from other countries.

To get a job in Qatar, for example, in Doha or any other city, an applicant needs to:

  • find an employer who also acts as their sponsor and guarantor;
  • sign an employment contract with the company;
  • obtain a work visa and residence permit.

It is imperative that the contract is appropriately drafted and contains information on working conditions, salary, and other employment details. The contract is checked by a recruitment agency, which ensures that the document meets the interests of the applicant and all legal requirements. This is a significant advantage of finding a job through professionals.

It is worth noting that Qatar is currently reforming its labor legislation, making it more comfortable and straightforward for migrants. The country is gradually abandoning the kafala system, which imposes several restrictions on foreign employees.

Among the most significant changes are the abolition of the ban on leaving the country without a special visa, the introduction of a minimum wage for newcomers, and the right of employees to freely change employers after a probationary period. These amendments will soon come into force, further increasing Qatar’s attractiveness for labor migrants.

Unlike European organizations, employers in Qatar act as guarantors of foreign workers. They help their employees prepare documents entitling them to work in this country, residence permits, etc. In addition, each new employee must pass a probationary period, after which they become a full-fledged part of the organization.
