Introduction
This is a corded upright vacuum designed for everyday home cleaning that aims to combine deep cleaning with straightforward operation. It swaps a traditional bristled brush for a no-bristle PowerFins brush roll, integrates sealed filtration to lock in dust and allergens, and adds LED lighting and enhanced steering to make corners and under-furniture areas easier to reach.
Who it’s for: homeowners and apartment dwellers who need a reliable, plug-in upright that can handle carpets and hard floors, reduce hair wrap on the brush roll, and help control allergens.
Quick verdict: A practical upright vacuum that prioritizes ease-of-use and allergen control, especially if you want less brush-roll maintenance and better visibility while cleaning.
What’s in the Box
- Not specified (manufacturer listing does not include a detailed components list)
Design & Build
This model follows a classic upright form factor: a standing body with an integrated cleaning head and a handle for pushing. The vacuum is corded, which means continuous power without battery charging or runtime concerns. Materials are not explicitly listed in the product information; most of the visible components on similar machines are a mix of hard plastics and metal fasteners, but those specifics are Not specified for this listing.
Because detailed weight and dimensions are Not specified, you should expect the usual upright trade-offs: generally stable and good for large areas, but potentially less compact and heavier than stick or canister vacuums when lifting stairs or storing. Ergonomically, the inclusion of Advanced Swivel Steering implies the machine is designed to pivot and navigate around furniture with minimal wrist strain, and the upright handle lets you push and pull without bending over.
Key Features
PowerFins brush roll — deeper clean without bristles
The PowerFins brush roll replaces traditional bristles with flexible fins that agitate and lift debris. The listing states this no-bristle approach collects more on each pass than the original DuoClean design and reduces hair wrap, which means less frequent manual untangling of hair and fibers from the brush. In practice, this helps when you have pets or family members with long hair, or when vacuuming high-traffic carpet where fibers commonly cling to the roll.
Where it helps: high-pile and low-pile carpets, rugs, and any area where strands and pet hair typically wrap around bristles.
Complete Seal Technology — traps dust where it belongs
This vacuum uses Complete Seal Technology paired with a high-efficiency filter to contain dust, pollen, and other particles inside the machine. The listing claims it traps over 99.9% of dust and allergens (source: listing, checked 2025). For anyone with mild allergies or who wants to minimize redistribution of fine particles during vacuuming, sealed systems reduce the chance that captured debris will re-enter the room.
Where it helps: allergy-season cleaning, homes with asthma or dust sensitivities, and homes where indoor air quality is a concern.
High-efficiency filter — extra filtration layer
Complementing the sealed system is a high-efficiency filter intended to capture microscopic particles. The combination of the filter and sealed airflow path improves the overall containment of fine dust and allergens. Filters in sealed systems usually require periodic inspection and replacement according to the manufacturer; specific filter model and replacement interval are Not specified in the listing.
Where it helps: capturing fine dust and reducing airborne irritants that ordinary filters might miss.
LED headlights — reveal hidden debris
LED headlights mounted on the nozzle illuminate dark corners, undersides of furniture, and spaces near baseboards so you can see small debris that’s easy to miss. This is a practical visual aid for spotting crumbs, pet litter, and other small objects that can otherwise be overlooked until they’re stepped on.
Where it helps: cleaning under sofas, around dining chairs, along baseboards, and in dimly lit rooms.
Advanced Swivel Steering — easier navigation
The Advanced Swivel Steering is designed to let the vacuum maneuver around legs of chairs, table bases, and other obstacles without laborious repositioning. It should make the unit feel more nimble in tight spaces compared with more rigid uprights.
Where it helps: small living rooms, kitchens with chairs in place, and environments with lots of furniture to work around.
Performance & Use
Setup is straightforward for a corded upright: attach the handle and any included accessories (if provided), plug in, and begin vacuuming. Because the unit is corded, you won’t need to worry about battery run-time or charging; instead, the trade-off is managing cord length and accessibility to outlets.
Practical tips:
- Start at the farthest corner from an outlet and work toward it so you don’t repeatedly move the plug.
- Use the LED headlights to guide edge and under-furniture passes—slow, deliberate strokes often pick up more debris than quick swipes.
- If you have long-haired pets, periodically inspect the brush roll for hair collection despite the no-bristle design; the PowerFins reduce wrap but do not guarantee zero maintenance.
- For allergy control, check the filter and dust compartment after several uses; replace or clean the filter per manufacturer guidance (Not specified in this listing).
- Empty the dust bin frequently to maintain suction; the listing does not specify bin capacity or whether the vacuum uses bags.
Maintenance notes:
- Filter replacement schedule and filter type are not listed—consult the manufacturer for recommended intervals.
- No explicit guidance on brush roll cleaning frequency is provided, though the no-bristle design aims to reduce hair-wrapping chores.
- Cord storage method is Not specified; many corded uprights use a wrap hook or retractable cord—confirm on the retailer page.
Performance expectations:
- The combination of the PowerFins brush roll and the sealed filtration system targets both visible debris pickup and improved containment of fine particles. Users who prioritize deep cleaning on mixed flooring and those who want to minimize allergen return to the room should find the unit effective (source: listing, checked 2025).

NOT GOOD

Oh. My. Goodness! We just received this vacuum today and went ahead and vacuumed our already cleaned rugs (from our old vacuum). We pulled up enough debris to fill the canister. So thankful for this machine! Additionally, it was priced at $60 LESS THAN it was at Walmart. Worth the 2-day wait to receive it.

The Shark LA401 Navigator Lift-Away ADV Upright Vacuum is a solid choice for anyone seeking a versatile and powerful cleaning solution, especially if you’re considering a renewed model. This vacuum combines Shark’s innovative features with the cost savings of a refurbished unit, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious consumers.
One of the standout features of the LA401 is its PowerFins brush roll. Unlike traditional brush rolls, the PowerFins design digs deep into carpets to agitate and lift embedded dirt and debris, while also providing direct contact with hard floors for thorough cleaning. This eliminates the need to switch brush rolls when moving between different floor types, saving time and effort.
The Lift-Away functionality is another key benefit, allowing you to detach the canister from the main body for portable cleaning. This is particularly useful for reaching stairs, upholstery, and tight spaces. The advanced swivel steering enhances maneuverability, making it easy to navigate around furniture and other obstacles. Additionally, the LED headlights illuminate the cleaning path, ensuring you don’t miss any dirt or debris in dimly lit areas.
As a renewed product, the Shark LA401 offers excellent value. Renewed products are typically inspected and tested to ensure they meet performance standards, so you can expect a vacuum that functions like new at a lower price. However, it’s important to purchase from a reputable seller to ensure the renewed vacuum is in good condition and comes with a warranty.

Absolutely love shark vacuums and this one has not disappointed. I especially love the light in the front as it helps me see any dust I may have missed. I would absolutely buy it again.

This is my second shark lift away vacuum and both of the have the same problem the hose keeps cracking at the connections.
Erika Wilson –
I absolutely love this vacuum, it cleans up pet hair better, and unlike other shark models, the roller will roll lightly on the hardwood floors. The silicone blade helps pick up everything. I use this everyday with my cleaning business. Only downside is there is a part of the interior of the canister that dirt will not come out of when you try to clean it. Major bummer, but everything else is great.

I love the shark sweeper. Does a great job.

I love Shark Vacuums. They, in my opinion, are the best! The one I have, not this one, I’ve had for 9 years and works wonderful but the handle started breaking. So we bought this one pictured here, but the suction is so strong that I couldn’t push it over my shag carpet, so I returned it. Little did I know but I could order the handle and hose as one new part from Amazon. Works great. Buy SHARK they’re the best.

Oh, WOW! Believe the hype reviews!! I didn’t know what I was missing before I bought my Shark. It’s just the best design — nice and tall (my partner is 6’5”), super high suction without any hair/fuzz getting caught on the roller, AND a center that detaches from the base so that you can use the suction hose up high without lifting the whole vacuum. My previous vacuum nearly ruined my living room rag rug, pulling it apart by constantly catching loose ends and wrapping them around the roller. Not the Shark — it has powerful suction but won’t catch ant loose ends or tassels on the roller. A miracle! Other reviews said this vacuum picks up more dirt than their other previous vacuums, and I wondered how they could even tell the difference. Well, was I ever wrong! I used my vacuum for less than five minutes and the waste compartment was already half full with dirt and fluff! I could tell my carpets looked cleaner than normal. Lastly, I was using the hose and accidentally vacuumed up a sock next to my washer. When it blocked the hose and made a funny sound, I sighed in despair, wondering how I’d de-clog the hose…but, never fear! Both ends of the hose released easily, and I spent no more than five seconds retrieving the sock and replacing the hose. Snap! Done.
Amazing value for the price, so treat yourself to this lean, mean, hardcore cleaning machine!!
