Introduction
The Hoover WindTunnel Tangle Guard is an upright, multi-surface vacuum built around a few clear priorities: strong pickup on varied floors, reduced brush-roll hair wrap, and simple tools for cleaning beyond bare floors. It’s aimed at households that need effective everyday cleaning—especially homes with mixed hard floors and carpets, pet hair, or lots of upholstery and stairs.
Quick verdict: If you want a straightforward, maneuverable upright with useful anti-tangle features and a HEPA-style filtration approach for dust and pollen, this model is a practical, sensible choice for routine home cleaning.

Design & Build
The Hoover WindTunnel Tangle Guard is described as lightweight and engineered for easy maneuverability. The upright form factor and swivel steering suggest a design focused on reaching around furniture and navigating tight spaces without exerting much force. Materials are not specifically listed, but Hoover uprights typically pair a durable plastic housing with metal wand components for the removable wand.
Ergonomics center on a few practical details: a removable built-in wand extends reach for high and awkward spots, and the easy-empty dirt cup simplifies disposal without touching dirt. There’s an emphasis on a brush roll that resists hair wrapping—the Tangle Guard feature—so you’ll spend less time de-tangling compared with older designs.
Weight and dimensions are Not listed, so if lift or storage clearance is a concern (for example, carrying the vacuum up stairs or storing in a small closet), check the retailer page or the manufacturer manual before purchase.
Key Features
Advanced Filtration (HEPA media filter)
Benefit: Captures finer dust, pollen and allergy-triggering particles that ordinary filters can recirculate.Where it helps: In allergy-prone homes or during spring pollen season, the HEPA-style media filter traps small airborne particles pulled from carpets and upholstery, improving indoor air quality after vacuuming. (source: listing, checked 2025)
Tangle Guard to Reduce Hair Wrap
Benefit: Limits hair winding around the brush roll so suction stays effective longer and maintenance time drops.Where it helps: Households with pets or long-haired occupants will notice less brush-roll cleaning between sessions—especially on rugs and carpeted stairs—so you can clean more and tinker less. (listing name: Hoover WindTunnel Tangle Guard)
Direct Suction & Multi-Floor Pickup
Benefit: Direct suction is tuned to lift both fine dust and larger debris across several floor types instead of relying only on brush agitation.Where it helps: If you switch between hardwood, tile, low- and medium-pile carpets, the direct suction improves pickup of cereal, pet kibble and daily dust without having to change settings repeatedly.
Swivel Steering & Lightweight Maneuverability
Benefit: Easier navigation around furniture, table legs and in narrow hallways.Where it helps: Quick touch-up cleans and whole-room routines are less of a chore because turning the vacuum takes less wrist torque—useful for older users or anyone who cleans frequently and wants to move quickly.
Removable Built-In Wand & Specialty Tools
Benefit: Makes it simple to transition from floors to stairs, upholstery, window sills and tight crevices without a separate handheld unit.Where it helps: Tackling couch cushions, car interiors, and staircases becomes practical without dragging additional equipment. The included specialty tools allow spot-cleaning and above-floor reach with the same machine.
Easy-Empty Dirt Cup
Benefit: Bagless design with a straightforward emptying process reduces contact with dust and makes emptying quicker.Where it helps: Frequent emptying after heavy cleaning sessions (pet hair, lots of debris) is less messy and faster than dealing with replacement bags.
Where to buy
Performance & Use
Setup
- Unpack the unit, attach the removable wand and any tools you’ll use, and confirm the filter is seated. Specific assembly steps and filter maintenance intervals are Not specified—refer to the included manual for exact instructions.
Daily and weekly use
- For everyday floors, use the upright with the brush roll engaged; the direct suction and brush coordination are meant to handle both fine dust and larger pieces.
- For stairs and upholstery, switch to the built-in wand and the appropriate specialty tool to avoid overworking the upright configuration.
Maintenance tips
- Empty the dirt cup after each heavy use or when it reaches the max-fill line to preserve suction.
- Clean or replace the HEPA media filter per the manufacturer’s schedule. If you have allergies, inspect the filter more often and replace it as needed.
- Although the tangle-reduction system reduces hair wrap, periodically check the brush roll for long hairs or strings—removing these prevents imbalance and preserves performance.
- Keep the wand and hose clear of blockages; test suction at the hose to diagnose clogs.
- If the vacuum loses pickup, start with the basics: empty cup, check filter, scan the brush roll and hose for jams.
Real-world tips
- On low-pile carpets and rugs, slow your passes slightly to give the machine time to lift embedded debris.
- For fine dust on hardwood or tile, take a second pass along baseboards and corners with the crevice tool rather than relying solely on the brush.
- When dealing with pet hair on upholstery, brush in the direction of fibers and use short, deliberate strokes with the upholstery tool for best pickup.

Works great, we have 2 dogs and one sheds terribly so have to vacuum every day to keep up with him. It is a heavier vacuum that my old one but it also works way better. We also live where there are coal mines and there’s a lot of fine dust that seems to make it in the house and this picks up an amazing amount every time I use it. No lack of suction and it’s easy to switch from carpet to hard floors. The wand releases easily and can get the right corners without much effort.

I vacuum with this Hoover Pet Max on carpet, large floor rugs and WilsonArt laminate wood flooring.
The 3 main reasons I bought this vacuum, over all the other upright bagless vacuums out there :
1) The large 2.5L dirt canister. The trend for newer model upright bagless vacuums are these small, 1.5L dirt canisters. If I spend good money for a quality upright bagless vacuum, that vacuum will have a decently sized dirt canister.
2) Performance. When this vacuum was delivered, I vacuumed my entire house: carpet, rugs, tile floor, laminate floor. The suction and ability to pick up debris in a single pass is great. The anti scatter seal, located just behind the brush roll on the underside of the vacuum, this seal keeps dirt within the brush roll area while vacuuming hard flooring. The 3 attachments work well. The Pet turbo tool works fine yet the same pet turbo tool from my previous Hoover works just a bit better. My old Hoover tools fit this new vacuum fine. The dirt canister is easy to remove and empty. Most important : the dirt canister does not clog. The dirt canister has small air holes at the top where air escapes the canister. My old vacuum, a $100 Hoover windtunnel, these air holes would clog with dust. With this Hoover PetMax vacuum, all the dirt and dust stay at the bottom of the dirt canister and the top area has no dust accumulation.
3) Durable build quality. The D shaped handle and the gauge of the plastic parts is substantial. My previous vacuum, a $100 windtunnel, ended up with several breaks to plastic parts over the years, including a broken plastic handle. My old vacuum developed air leaks at the dirt canister and this reduced suction. I sealed these leaks with duct tape. I realized I got what I paid for : a $100 vacuum. Every vacuum brand makes their low cost version of a vacuum cleaner. I spent more for this PetMax and I got a more durable handle, a more durable dirt canister. It is worth buying quality now and not having to duct tape in the future.

I replaced my old vacuum with this one. I am impressed with this vacuum while being equally alarmed by how awful a job my last vacuum (that was very expensive) did. I only got this vacuum because I broke my last one by catching the hose (that was in the front of the vacuum) on a cabinet. Another feature I like about this one is the hose from the bottom of the vacuum to the collection container is on the back.
This vacuum comes apart in 3 locations (by simply twisting) to remove anything that might have been sucked up on accident as opposed to having to get the screwdriver out and take apart the whole vacuum apart like previous models I have owned.
The hose is easy to use and the attachments are lifesavers. The pet hair one is super impressive and the dusting one gets the job done (you may have to Swiffer for small tight spaces and tiny corners though). I keep the pet attachment in a drawer as I kept knocking it off the vacuum where it attaches and it made the hose hard to fit behind furniture I was trying to vacuum behind. All of the attachments you need are included. There is no extra charge for ordering other parts. The filters are washable and it comes with 2. If you are washing one, you can use the other one. The cord is super long. I do wish it would rewind on its own. However, a vacuum I owned in the past did rewind on its own and that feature stopped working about 2 years into owning it.
It is not on a ball (like a Dyson) so it is not as easy to maneuver, but it does the job. If you find the vacuum has too much resistance than you probably have to floor setting too low. You just need to adjust the height on the dial.
It is on the heavy side and it is fairly loud. If you are looking for a lighter and quieter model than this is not for you. However, every vacuum has its own pros and cons. The lighter and quieter vacuums do not have the same suction power as this one. It just depends on what you are looking for.

I’ve only had this vacuum a couple of months, but it works great. I have only 4 stars because the buttons and release mechanisms seem cheap compared to my prior vac’s (sharks). It is also a little heavy.
However, it seems to work as well as any vacuum I am have had, making it a great value, if it holds up.

As someone living in an old apartment where the carpet hasn’t been replaced for some time, I struggled to find any vacuum that really made a difference but oh my gosh – this was the BEST purchase ever! The difference after just one turn around the apartment was wild, and it sucked up so much cat hair that had been buried in the carpet fibre that it almost looks like we steam cleaned! It is big, a little heavy and not as manoeuvrable as some, so might not suit someone with a lot of stairs, but I was blown away. Definitely recommend for those with pets!

Only the master bedroom has carpets here. I had a little cruddy vacuum that used to work okay in a 1-bedroom apartment 15 years ago lol. I got a little lazy during pandemic, and after one of the dogs passed away I didn’t feel the need to vacuum as much.
The result was a room with carpets so dirty, dusty, hairy, filthy – that I had kind of given up hope and was about to rip out the last carpet in the house. I have a bad back and knew that I would end up hurting myself using a heavy duty vacuum.
As you can read above, the excuses not to vacuum were plentiful. I bought this Pet Max Complete so that I could focus on pulling up all the dog hair. It isn’t too heavy for me to use with my bad back problems. And let me tell you — I was “floored” (get it?) to see just how much filth and hair this machine was able to pull up. I had to empty the cannister every 5 minutes (great suction).
It was working so well that I tried every attachment and spent hours on the room. Worked great on fan blades, fixtures, blinds & curtains, getting hair off the bedding, cobwebs, dusting, edges and floorboards.
I did have to move some of the larger furniture to clean behind it, but otherwise it was able to maneuver just fine. I was able to clean out the underside of the treadmill using the attachments, and that is where so much dog hair had gotten trapped.
By the time I was done, I had a “tall kitchen” size garbage bag more then 3/4 full of all the mung it had vacuumed up for me. The vacuum works so well, and it’s so easy to use – I’ve gotten back in the habit of vacuuming again.
For me, buying this vacuum saved the carpet and saved me the cost of new flooring. (I also had to use my 20-year-old steam vac to really finish the job, but still!).

This vacuum works very well and what it is intended for. Cat hair is picked up very well and the suction is good. It is quite loud and will not work well on stairs in my opinion because the wand attachment is stiff and not long enough. I received the version that the brush keeps rolling when the wand is being used which is irritating. I find the foot lever does release with alittle more force and it maneuvers ok. It does not shoot out the litter from the back end which is nice on a hard surface. I would recommend it to pick up pet hair for sure as I vacuumed up a whole other cat I didn’t know I had. Works for its intended purpose but might be alittle loud and awkward for someone older, a senior.
