I bought this on my own and wasn’t given a free unit—this is an honest review from someone who paid for it. I have an Australian Shepherd who blows his coat twice a year, so hair is a constant battle. If I don’t keep up, tumbleweeds of fur end up all over my carpets and hardwood.
I’d been eyeing robot vacuums for a while to help maintain things between deep cleans with my Shark upright (my second Shark and I love it). I considered Roombas but hesitated at the price and felt mid-level models might not perform well. Then I discovered this Shark Ion robot and decided to give it a try. For the $350 I paid, it has been well worth it.
It does an excellent job picking up dog hair—almost as much as my upright—and handles fine debris like dust, dirt, and sand surprisingly well. It also picks up larger tracked-in items like dog food, leaves, grass, and bark. When I run the upright after the robot, there’s only a minimal amount left, mostly in tight corners and niches the robot can’t reach.

The only snag was it getting stuck under a shelf once; the included magnetic tape fixed that quickly by keeping it from entering that spot. Full disclosure: we use this mostly on hardwood and tile, with one small room of medium-pile carpet. We bought this expecting to return it — the reviews were iffy and we chose one of the narrow models hoping it would fit under our dining table. Out of the box it was about 1/8″ too wide and I thought it was going back. After charging it and reading the manual we decided to give it a try before returning. To my surprise it navigated under the chairs, cleaned under both, and came back out. If we flip a chair up at night it will easily clean under the table.
We had two big problems to solve: mud and gravel being tracked in after a flood/repair mess (it was embarrassing stepping on rocks at night), and fibers everywhere from a world-class quilter in the house. We wanted nightly cleanup for both.
The robot is gentle — it brushes and bumps, but never harshly. It nudged a freestanding umbrella near the wall but didn’t knock it over, and while eating dinner it bumped my toes lightly with its side brushes and moved on. I doubt it would damage furniture or woodwork. Its navigation algorithm seems very good: it wiggles, spins, and navigates through gaps barely larger than itself. On an 800 sq ft area it covers the space roughly three times on a single charge. We did find a few trap spots where a narrow entry combined with a counterclockwise turn or closely set chairs could strand it, so minor furniture rearrangement was needed. Generally, any floor area 4′ square or larger needs an exit about the size of a door to avoid trapping.
It cleaned almost everything. When it disturbed pieces of cat food stuffed under a storage tub we assumed it would choke, but it picked up all but one and later collected the last piece. Docking is mostly reliable — sometimes it had trouble sensing the base and stopped to spin, then found it and did a small wiggle to align and dock. The spot-clean function makes a roughly 2-foot circle.
Performance-wise I’d estimate it picks up about 98% of dirt and fibers. It struggles on rough doormats and wide gaps, and we keep it away from our very matted shag carpet because it loosened the pile and caught a side brush. Small rocks up to about 1/2″ are no problem. Long threads and yarn do wrap around the brush roll and need to be trimmed off every few days.
Noise: surprisingly quiet. You barely notice it a few feet away — much quieter than most vacuums we’ve heard. It’s quieter than our refrigerator’s ice maker, a bit louder than our HVAC, and about half as loud as a sewing machine. It even works fine in the dark.
Overall this has exceeded expectations and feels like a bargain for the price. After two weeks we wouldn’t want to be without it — clean floors every morning. We have created a couple of narrow trap areas and avoid the shag carpet, but otherwise it’s been delightfully effective.

I’m thrilled with my Shark — it’s excellent at vacuuming floors and carpets. In mop mode it does double duty, vacuuming and mopping so the floors come out very clean. Make sure to remove large obstacles so it can do its job properly. The only downside is that I’m in Mexico and there’s no mobile app to control it here. I urgently ask the seller to release an app for use in Mexico — this Shark is too good not to have app support.
