Intro

The X40 Ultra is a self-emptying, hybrid cleaning robot that combines strong suction with an automated mopping system and on-board maintenance features. It targets households that want a more autonomous floor-care routine—especially homes with mixed floor types (hard floors plus area rugs) and pet hair challenges.

If you want a machine that not only vacuums but also lifts and cleans its mop pad on the dock, the X40 Ultra is worth a close look. Quick verdict: a technically ambitious robo-cleaner that prioritizes carpet protection and low-touch maintenance, with a few caveats around connectivity and unspecified physical dimensions.

Keywords: X40 Ultra (primary), robot vacuum (secondary), robot mop (secondary).

What’s in the Box

  • Not specified by the listing.
  • Inferred (typical items included): robot vacuum-mop unit, charging/docking station with maintenance module, main brush and side brush, removable mop pad(s), water/reservoir tanks, power cable, quick start guide — Not specified (inferred items may vary).

Design & Build

The listing doesn’t give material or exact size/weight measurements, so the build description focuses on observable design choices and their implications rather than specific dimensions.

  • Construction and materials: Not specified. Most models in this class use ABS/plastic housings and rubberized wheels; expect similar materials unless manufacturer states otherwise.
  • Form factor: The X40 Ultra is designed to operate under low furniture and in tight corners—features like a liftable/extendable side brush and RoboSwing mop motion indicate a low-profile cleaning intent.
  • Ergonomics and serviceability: Key service interactions are handled at the dock (mop washing and drying) and via removable parts (a removable mop and likely detachable dustbin). Because the dock performs hot-water cleaning, daily maintenance on the robot itself should be minimal.
  • Practical implications: Without listed height/weight specs, measure door clearance and under-furniture gaps at home before buying if you have very low-clearance furniture.

Key Features

SideReach Liftable & Extendable Side Brush — Better corner and edge cleaning

The X40 Ultra uses a liftable, extendable side brush designed to reach into wall corners and around table and sofa legs. In practice this helps sweep debris away from edges into the robot’s suction path, improving pickup along baseboards and in tight spaces where a central brush can’t reach. Expect cleaner corners without repeated passes.

Real-world benefit: homes with skirting boards, dining chairs, or sofa legs will see fewer missed crumbs and pet hair near edges.

Removable & Auto-Lift Mop — Protects carpets from wetting

This robot can physically remove its mop or auto-lift the mop assembly up to 10.5 mm (0.41 inches) to avoid wetting carpets and rugs. That lift height is intended to let the robot pass over low rugs without dragging water onto them. You can also define no-mop zones in the app so the robot avoids rugs entirely.

Why it matters: If you have area rugs that don’t tolerate moisture, this feature reduces the risk of accidental wetting and staining by the mopping system (source: listing, checked 2025).

12,000Pa Suction — Strong pickup for hair and debris

The unit claims an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction power, paired with an optimized air duct to maintain airflow. That level of suction is aimed at more reliably gathering pet hair, larger debris, and embedded dirt on hard floors and low-pile carpets.

Where it helps: homes with shedding pets or lots of tracked-in dirt will notice fewer missed bits, and the optimized duct reduces clogs during longer runs (source: listing, checked 2025).

OmniDirt Detection & MopExtend RoboSwing — Smarter spot treatment

OmniDirt detection helps the robot sense stubborn, concentrated dirt patches and respond with increased attention. MopExtend RoboSwing gives the mop a scrubbing motion that can reach under low furniture and into corners more effectively than a passive pad.

Real-life scenario: spilled spots in the kitchen or grime tracked under sofas get more aggressive localized scrubbing rather than a single slow pass.

Auto Maintenance with Hot-Water Cleaning — Low-touch mop care

The base station washes both the mop and washboard with water heated to 158°F (about 70°C) and offers four temperature settings in the app. This aims to reduce stains and odors in the mop assembly and extend the hygiene interval between manual cleaning.

How this helps day-to-day: you won’t need to hand-wash the mop as often, and the hot-water cycle can help reduce buildup from greasy kitchen spills and pet odors (source: listing, checked 2025).

Note: the robot supports only 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi for app connectivity (source: listing, checked 2025).

3D Structured Light, Camera & LED Navigation — Precise mapping and indoor maneuvering

Navigation combines 3D structured light with an onboard camera and LED illumination to map and move around a home accurately at all hours. This setup supports room learning, custom modes, and creation of pet zones or no-mop zones through the companion app.

Practical benefit: more predictable routes, fewer surprises around fragile objects, and easier setup of restricted areas for pets, carpets, or delicate rugs.

6,400mAh Battery & Auto-Resume — Longer runs and seamless completion

A large 6,400mAh battery is intended to provide extended runtime so the robot can finish larger areas without interrupting. If the battery gets low, it returns to the dock to recharge and will resume cleaning where it left off.

Benefit: less manual intervention for multi-room or larger apartments (source: listing, checked 2025).

Where to buy

Performance & Use

Setup tips

  • Wi‑Fi: Only 2.4 GHz networks are supported. If you use a dual-band router, ensure the robot is connected to the 2.4 GHz SSID during setup (source: listing, checked 2025).
  • Placement: Install the dock against a wall on a flat surface with at least a small clearance each side; keep the charging area free of clutter so the robot can find and dock reliably.
  • Mapping: Let the robot perform a full mapping run before enabling advanced features (pet zones, no-mop areas). This yields more precise zone edits later.

Daily use and modes

  • Vacuum-first strategy: If you have a lot of dry debris, run a vacuum pass before heavy mopping. The X40 Ultra’s suction helps pick up loose dirt so the mop scrubs only the soiled residue.
  • App controls: Use the app to adjust mop temperature (4 levels) and define virtual no-mop or no-go zones. The lift function and in-app zone settings combine to protect rugs from moisture.

Mop maintenance

  • The dock’s hot-water cleaning reduces manual work, but inspect the mop pad and water tank periodically for wear and debris. Replace mop pads per manufacturer recommendations or when visibly worn.
  • Empty and refill tanks as instructed; water reservoirs collect rinse water and may require occasional cleaning to prevent odors.

Troubleshooting pointers

  • If the robot struggles with docking or navigation, check camera lens and LED for smudges and wipe clean.
  • For suction loss, remove and check the main brush and air duct path for entangled hair or blockages.
  • Keep firmware and app updated for navigation improvements and feature tuning.

Energy and scheduling

  • Auto-recharge and resume allows larger cleanup jobs to complete over multiple sessions. The listing mentions optimizing charging during off-peak hours to save energy costs—use your router or home automation schedule to shift dock charging if your utility supports it (source: listing, checked 2025).

Pros vs Cons

Pros Cons
Liftable mop (10.5 mm) and app no-mop zones protect carpets from moisture (source: listing, checked 2025). Exact dimensions, weight, and runtime in hours are not listed—hard to check clearance and room coverage.
Strong 12,000Pa suction with optimized air duct for better debris pickup (source: listing, checked 2025). Only supports 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi; no 5 GHz support may complicate setups on modern networks.
Auto-maintenance dock that washes mop and washboard with hot water up to 158°F and offers 4 temperature settings (source: listing, checked 2025). The listing doesn’t specify noise levels during operation or dock cleaning cycles.
Navigation uses 3D structured light, camera, and LED for more precise mapping and obstacle handling (source: listing, checked 2025). Some components and what’s included in the box are not explicitly listed—buyers should confirm package contents.
Large 6,400mAh battery with auto-recharge and resume for extended coverage (source: listing, checked 2025). Manufacturer details on materials and long-term durability not provided in the listing.

Who Should Buy

  • Households with mixed floor types: If you have hardwood, tile, and area rugs, the X40 Ultra’s liftable mop and no-mop zoning reduces the risk of wetting carpets.
  • Pet owners: The combination of 12,000Pa suction, side brush reach, and targeted dirt detection is suited to homes with shedding pets.
  • People who want low-touch maintenance: The hot-water mop-cleaning dock reduces how often you need to hand-wash pads.
  • Busy households that need scheduled, larger-area cleanups: The big battery and auto-resume convenience help cover more square footage with less supervision.

Who Shouldn’t Buy

  • Users who need 5 GHz Wi‑Fi compatibility: If your smart-home ecosystem relies on 5 GHz-only networks, the X40 Ultra’s 2.4 GHz-only support could be limiting.
  • Shoppers who require detailed physical specs up front: If you need exact height, width, or noise figures to verify under-furniture clearance or apartment rules, the listing lacks those specifics.
  • Those on a tight budget looking for a basic unit: The automated hot-water dock and other advanced systems typically come with a higher price tag and maintenance expectations.
  • People with very high-pile or fringe-heavy rugs: Although the robot raises its mop, performance on tall rugs or tasseled edges is not documented and may be unreliable.

Closing — Quick Buying Advice

If you want a feature-rich, low-touch robot that prioritizes carpet protection and on-dock mop hygiene, the X40 Ultra delivers several practical upgrades over basic robot vacuums: liftable mopping, hot-water dock cleaning, strong suction, and smart detection for stubborn dirt. Before purchasing, confirm the included accessories and measure furniture clearance since physical size and runtime figures aren’t listed in the product details. If your Wi‑Fi environment relies on 5 GHz only or you need full dimensional specs up front, check with the seller.

If this aligns with your home’s needs, the X40 Ultra is a solid candidate for reducing hands-on floor care while keeping carpets dry.

The robot works great. The vacuum and the mopping function are both solid. The vac can get over small ledges/thresholds without an issue, max about 1inch maybe? Nice that it auto empties and is ready to go again. Dreame app works fine, and you can use it to remote control the vac while watching through the camera, or send it to particular room, or a custom region, in addition to have it go everywhere at once. The mapping is quite good, the suction is strong, and it’s easy to clean when needed.

We have cats, who occasionally vomit, so I don’t schedule it to go around automatically without checking that there’s no vomit bombs anywhere – otherwise it might drag it around and also get nasty. For those not so afflicted, there’s a scheduling function in the app as well.

Pro tip: to remove hair that’s wrapped around the beater brush, you can take out the whole bar, then pop off the two little plugs from both ends, and the whole rings of hair will just come off.

I’ll say to begin with that I use this in a high-end garage that has tile floor. I got clean the floor each week, in a place where floors typically fairly dirty. Before cleaning, I use the leaf blower to clean debris as much as possible, then put the vacuum / mop to work. Issues I have:
    1. The dust bin doesn’t self-clean and gets full quickly — I clean it after every vacuum. I thought it would self-empty the dust, but it does NOT do this. I believe most people will have to empty / clean the dust bin each time they run the vacuum. For reference, I have a different brand vacuum/mop for indoors, cleaning hair from two cats. The indoor unit captures more debris than the X40 does, so I don’t think the floor it is cleaning is all that dirty.
    2. The mop heads installation fails EVERY SINGLE TIME. I have it set to vacuum, then mop, and the thing errors out in the middle when it goes to install the mops. I have to do it manually. There is no “resume” function at this point, so I have to re-program the unit to mop with no vacuum — having a “resume” would be better.

All told, it takes 5-10 minutes to get the X40 to clean the floor, with half of that time 90 minutes after it stalls out (to manually install the mops). This is versus my expectation that it might be able to clean multiple times with no manual intervention — not even close! Hence the 2-star rating.

The floor ends up mostly clean, but a manual mop works better, and this is with the mop set to the wettest setting, and doing the deepest possible clean. So that is disappointing as well.

If I had it to do over again, I’d either try another high-end mop/vacuum unit from another company, or just get a lower-end unit since the mop doesn’t work that well. Would not buy this one again.

EDIT: changing my review to 1-star. The app that I have stopped working, and without that the vacuum is useless to me. When I bring up the app, the screen comes up and is blank, I have not been able to fix this. There is no app update due, and if this is caused by Dreamhome servers being down, they have been down for 4+ hours. I’m going to try uninstalling & reinstalling the app. But for a $1200+ vacuum I should not have to be doing this!

This robot works great — both the vacuum and mopping functions are solid. It climbs small thresholds easily (up to about an inch), automatically empties itself, and is ready to go again. The Dreame app is intuitive: you can remote-control the vacuum with live camera view, send it to specific rooms or custom zones, or run a full clean. Mapping is accurate, suction is strong, and maintenance is straightforward. We have cats who occasionally vomit, so I don’t schedule fully automatic runs without first checking for any messes (otherwise it can spread the vomit around). For others this isn’t an issue — there’s a scheduling feature in the app. Pro tip: to remove hair wrapped around the beater brush, pull out the whole bar, pop off the small end plugs, and the hair rings come off easily.

I’ve had this device for a week. We bought it because our house is large — three floors — and we’re two older adults; the person who used to help with cleaning stopped coming. Setup was very easy: just read the manual and follow the steps. After that we tried it and were pleasantly surprised. I can say with certainty the floors have never been this clean in a week. I programmed it to clean the ground floor three times a week, and twice a week I carry it up to clean the upper floor. We’re very satisfied with the results. I’m thinking of buying another one for the upper floor so I don’t have to move the robot up and down. I also want to study its modes more to make better use of it. We’ll keep testing during the trial period, but for now we are completely satisfied.

I’m really impressed with this robot vacuum. Its clean white finish looks sophisticated and fits my home perfectly. After the first run the whole house felt completely clean — it picked up dust and pet hair and tackled corners effortlessly. The navigation is smart and precise, avoiding obstacles and reaching under furniture without issue. I appreciate that it automatically returns to the base for charging and mop cleaning, making upkeep nearly effortless. Strong suction, effective mopping, and overall performance that exceeded my expectations. Quiet, powerful, and convenient — highly recommended.

If I could give this robot vacuum 10 stars, I absolutely would! As a busy working mom and wife, anything that can save me time and eliminate tasks from my to-do list is a total win in my book. This vacuum does so much more than just clean—it vacuums, mops, empties itself, and even lets me know when it’s time for maintenance. It’s truly a hands-off cleaning solution!

I’ve set up a cleaning schedule that works perfectly for my family’s routine: vacuuming on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and a vacuum and mop combo on Tuesday and Thursday. The app is incredibly user-friendly, allowing me to easily adjust the order of the rooms or change the schedule whenever needed. I love the flexibility!

One of my favorite features is the robot’s ability to take pictures of its surroundings while cleaning. It’s like having an extra set of eyes on the floor! I’ve discovered a lost shoe under the couch and several dog toys under the bed that I hadn’t even realized were there. It’s fun and surprisingly practical.

Another huge perk is how this vacuum avoids obstacles—my previous robot vacuums would get stuck on cords or furniture, but this one has never tangled or caused issues. It simply navigates around things with ease, so I don’t have to worry about constant interruptions.

I’ve tried several other robot vacuums, but this one has far exceeded my expectations. It’s by far the best I’ve used and is now a must-have in my home. If you’re looking for a reliable, efficient, and smart vacuum, look no further!

I would love to try their pool vacuum but will need to save up a few more pennies for that purchase!

I’d always hesitated to buy a robot vacuum, but I found a deal on the X40 Ultra and it was totally worth it. It cleans better than my wife and I do—no joke! Setup was simple; I just refill the clean-water tank and empty the dirty one. We have a Border Collie and it’s excellent at picking up all the hair. Highly recommended — I don’t know why I waited so long. Great investment that saves a ton of time.

I use this on the main level of my home. Over 800 sq ft of tile and 600 sq ft of carpet.

I’m basing this review on how well it cleans.

Honestly, my floors have never been this clean.

And using a smart vacuum/mop like this one has me using floor robots again.

I have now used the robot to clean the entire main level of the house at least 20 times.

Previous robots have frequently gotten stuck on objects, cords, towels, socks, almost anything on the floor.

And in all of the times I’ve used the X.40 it got stuck exactly once.

In my experience this is exceptional. Also, and this is important, I had turned off collision avoidance which makes the X 40 more sensitive to obstacles but keeps it a little further away from walls, etc. I think if collision avoidance had been turned on it would not have ever become stuck.

Why am I using robot vacuums again? I do not have to run around making sure there is absolutely nothing on the floor that a robot could get stuck on, but instead can just turn it loose and be confident that it will do the right thing. I do not come home and find that a robot got stuck early in the cleaning process and my floors are still dirty. The X 40 just does the right thing. For me this is a game changer. Literally. I tell it to clean, leave the house, and come back to clean floors. It’s awesome.

If I leave the house and forget to tell it to clean, I can use the app on my cell phone from anywhere to control it. Also great.

For the combination of floors I have described I set the very customizable mop wetness to almost maximum and tell it to clean the mops every 10 minutes. (it washes them! It doesn’t just spread dirty water around the floor when mopping!)

With these settings it is able to complete the cleaning without refilling the water or emptying the dirty water.

Another thing I very much like about this vacuum/mop is that my carpets never get wet or damp. You can configure the robot to drop the mops at the base station before it cleans carpet! Previous robots, although they lift the mops, have still dampened some of the thicker area rugs.

In fact, the ability to drop the mops before cleaning carpet is one of the reasons I bought the X 40 instead of other well reviewed robots.

The “clean genius“ setting does a good job. I have also set up Shortcuts that allow me to specify exactly what settings to use on a per room basis. If the kitchen floor is particularly messy after complex cooking, I use a shortcut to do repeated intensive cleaning.

Previous robots have been a nuisance in that they took a lot of maintenance between cleanings: wash the pads, empty the vacuum bin, clean the brushes.

Another game changer: the X40 returns to the base at a customizable frequency, where it empties the vacuum bin, automatically discharges the dirty water, refills the clean water, and actually washes the mop pads. With no intervention from me!

Instead of depending on me to intervene and empty the vacuum bin and wash the pads, the vacuum takes care of everything.

It even washes the base station!

My chores? No vacuuming. No mopping. If the floors are bad I just tell the robot to clean two or three times.

All I have to do? Tap out the filter to clear out the fine dust and dust bunnies. (You can also wash the filter and let it dry). Empty the dirty water and clean the dirty water tank by spraying it with my kitchen sink sprayer. Refill the clean water tank. Put the tanks back in the base and walk away.

The entire routine takes less than 10 minutes, and aside from handling the water tanks, which takes three or four minutes, I only do the full routine every three or four cleanings.

Also, the brush roller is very easy to service. The end caps remove and any string or hair that is wrapped around the axle can just be pulled off. Much easier than my previous robot which was very much a nuisance to detangle.

The software is extensively customizable. The one thing I will say about the software is that although I have been able to customize the behavior of the robot to a great degree, the software is sometimes not easy to use.

The options are there, but the language used is sometimes confusing and options can be difficult to find and interpret. I trust this is a work in progress.

Despite the use of the software occasionally being difficult to figure out, for me this is well compensated by the very extensive customizability.

All in all, I love having clean floors. I very much appreciate the independence of this robot, it’s ability to take care of itself; the tiny amount of time it requires from me; the extensive customizability; the ability to remotely control the robot; the locator function (makes it beep); and the onboard camera that tells me where things are.

I like the X40 so much that I bought the very similar but less expensive X 30 for my downstairs.

I also bought an X 30 for my college daughter, who also loves her clean floors.

She also loves that her cats are not afraid of it. Her previous robot vacuum was not usable after she got cats. To navigate it just bumped off of things and I think the random movement frightened the cats. It was unpredictable.

The X 40 and X 30 map the rooms and go back-and-forth in rows and columns very predictably and very efficiently. The cats are fine with it

Also, if a cat comes over and is curious and stands in front of it the vacuum turns away and avoids the pet. It’s very pet friendly.

All of the positives have completely overwhelmed the minor complaints I have about the sometimes difficult software.

I should also note that just right out of the box I used the clean genius setting and the robot did a very very good job.

Unless you are a tinkerer like me I think the automatic settings are much more than adequate.

Lots of praise and very very few complaints.

I don’t think I realized how much I like this vacuum/mop until I started writing this review, which I had intended to be very brief.

I forgot to mention the very responsive customer support!

I use this in a high-end garage with tile floors that I clean weekly. I blow debris out first with a leaf blower, then put the vacuum/mop to work. Problems I’ve had:

    1) The dust bin does not self-clean and fills quickly. I empty and clean it after every run. I assumed it would self-empty, but it does not — so most users will need to empty it each time. For comparison, my indoor vacuum/mop from another brand (used for two cats’ hair) picks up more debris than the X40, so I don’t think the garage floor is unusually dirty.

    2) The mop pads fail to install automatically every single time. I schedule it to vacuum then mop, and it always errors when it tries to attach the mops. I have to install them manually, and there’s no “resume” function — I must reprogram it to mop-only. This adds a lot of hassle.

All told, it takes 5–10 minutes to get the X40 ready to clean, and when it stalls installing the mops I’ve spent up to 90 minutes manually fixing it. I expected multiple unattended cleaning cycles — that’s not the case. Because of these issues I originally rated it 2 stars.

The floor ends up mostly clean, but a manual mop does a better job even on the wettest, deepest setting, which is disappointing. If I could do it over, I’d try a different high-end brand or just buy a cheaper unit since the mopping performance is poor. I would not buy this again.

EDIT: Changing my rating to 1 star. The app stopped working — it opens to a blank screen and I can’t fix it. There’s no pending app update, and Dreamhome’s servers may be down (they’ve been down for 4+ hours). I’ll try reinstalling the app, but for a $1,200+ vacuum I shouldn’t have to troubleshoot this.

I am very impressed with this robot vacuum! The sleek white design looks modern and high-end, and it blends perfectly with my home decor. After the first use, the entire house felt spotless — it picked up dust, pet hair, and even handled corners very well.

The smart navigation is accurate and efficient, avoiding obstacles and cleaning under furniture with no problem. I also love that it automatically returns to the base for charging and mop cleaning, which makes maintenance almost effortless. The suction power is strong, the mopping function works great, and the overall performance really exceeded my expectations.

Quiet, powerful, and convenient — this robot is definitely worth recommending!

I use the X40 on my main level — about 800 sq ft of tile and 600 sq ft of carpet — and I’m judging it purely on cleaning performance. Honestly, my floors have never been this clean. It’s brought me back to using robot vacuums full-time.

I’ve run the X40 over the whole main level at least 20 times. Previous robots would get stuck on cords, towels, socks, and almost anything on the floor. The X40 has only gotten stuck once. I had collision avoidance turned off (it makes the robot more sensitive to obstacles but keeps it further from walls); I’m confident that with collision avoidance on it likely wouldn’t have gotten stuck at all. The point is: I don’t have to run around clearing every little thing off the floor anymore. I can start it, leave the house, and come back to clean floors — a genuine game changer.

Remote control via the phone app works great if I forget to start it before leaving. For my mix of floors I set the mop wetness to almost maximum and have it wash the mops every 10 minutes (it really washes them — it doesn’t just spread dirty water). With these settings it finishes cleaning without me refilling or emptying anything.

Crucially, my carpets never get wet. The X40 can drop the mops at the base station before cleaning carpet, a feature that sold me on it — previous robots sometimes left thicker rugs damp even when they “lifted” the mops. The “clean genius” mode works well, and I’ve created Shortcuts so each room can use specific settings (e.g., repeated intensive cleaning for a messy kitchen).

Maintenance is far less of a hassle than with earlier robots. The X40 returns to the base at a customizable frequency and automatically empties the vacuum bin, discharges dirty water, refills the clean water, and actually washes the mop pads — all without my intervention. It even cleans the base station. My regular chores are minimal: tap the filter to clear fine dust (or wash and dry it), empty and rinse the dirty water tank, refill the clean water tank, and pop them back in. The whole routine takes under 10 minutes, and I only do the full routine every three or four cleanings.

Serviceability is excellent: the brush roller is easy to maintain — end caps come off and hair or string can be pulled off the axle. Much easier than my old robot. The software is extremely customizable, though not always intuitive: settings and language can be confusing and some options are hard to find. That said, the customization more than makes up for the occasional UI frustration.

I love having consistently clean floors and appreciate how independent the robot is, how little time it requires from me, the extensive customizability, remote control, the locator beep, and the onboard camera that shows where things are. I liked it enough to buy the similar but cheaper X30 for downstairs and another X30 for my college daughter. She loves it — and so do her cats. Unlike her old robot, the X30/X40 map rooms and clean in predictable back-and-forth rows, which the cats tolerate. If a pet stands in front of the robot it will avoid them.

Bottom line: lots of praise and very few complaints. Out of the box, “clean genius” did an excellent job, and unless you’re a tinkerer the automatic settings are more than adequate. Also, customer support has been very responsive. I didn’t realize how much I’d come to depend on and enjoy this robot until I started writing this review.

It doesn’t handle old stains well, but overall it does a great job. Worth the price. I’d give it 4.5 stars, but since that’s not an option I give it 4 stars because for now it’s the best of its kind.
