Design & Build
Dyson’s design language here prioritizes practicality over minimalism: ball technology is integrated to aid turning and steering, and the cleaner head features an active base plate that self-adjusts to maintain a seal with the floor. The accessories include a carbon fiber soft dusting brush — a nod toward materials chosen for static control and gentle surface contact — while the suite of tools is bundled in a storage bag to keep them organized when not in use.
The listing doesn’t provide exact weight or dimensions, so you won’t find measurements to compare against stair or closet storage constraints. That said, the Ball steering system is designed to reduce the effort required to pivot around furniture and narrow pathways, which helps users who do a lot of vacuuming across rooms. Ergonomically, the presence of multiple handheld tools and a reach-under wand suggests the vacuum is intended to be used both as a canister/corded upright and as a handheld for targeted jobs.
Key Features
Radial Root Cyclone suction technology
Benefit: The vacuum uses Dyson’s Radial Root Cyclone design to maintain strong, sustained suction by separating dirt and dust more efficiently.
Where it helps: This is most useful when you have a mix of fine dust and larger debris across rugs and hard floors — less clogging means fewer loss-of-suction moments mid-clean.
Self-adjusting cleaner head with active base plate
Benefit: The cleaner head automatically raises or lowers to seal to the floor, helping preserve suction across different surface heights.
Where it helps: Transitioning from hardwood to low- or medium-pile carpet becomes smoother and more effective; fewer passes are needed to get the same clean.
Motorized brush bar
Benefit: The motor-driven brush assists in loosening embedded dirt and pet hair that sits in carpet fibers.
Where it helps: High-traffic areas and deep-pile carpets where manual agitation won’t fully remove trapped debris.
Engineered for larger homes and pet owners
Benefit: The system and included tools are positioned for more square footage and for households with shedding animals.
Where it helps: Long runs through living rooms, stairs, upholstery, and bedrooms — the combination of powerful suction and pet-focused accessories aims to speed these tasks.
Ball technology for maneuverability
Benefit: Dyson’s Ball design lets you change direction with minimal wrist effort.
Where it helps: Tight corners, furniture legs, and multi-room cleaning sessions where frequent turns are necessary.
Advanced whole-machine filtration
Benefit: Filtration is engineered to trap allergens inside the vacuum rather than expelling them back into the room.
Where it helps: Homes with allergy sufferers or anyone sensitive to airborne dust benefit from containment of fine particles during vacuuming.
Accessories tailored to specific tasks
Benefit: The eight Dyson-engineered accessories (tangle free turbine tool, combination tool, multi-angle brush, stair tool, reach under tool, carbon fiber soft dusting brush, mattress tool, and tool bag) add dedicated options for pet hair, dusting, stairs, and under-furniture cleaning.
Where it helps: Use the tangle-free turbine for pet hair on upholstery, the mattress tool for bedding, and the reach-under tool to access low-clearance areas.
Warranty and support
Benefit: The product comes with a 5-year limited warranty plus lifetime Dyson customer support and access to personalized guides via the MyDyson app.
Where it helps: Longer-term ownership reduces worry about defects or early failure; the app can guide maintenance and troubleshooting (source: listing, checked 2025).
Performance & Use
Setup is typically straightforward: attach the desired tool for the area you’re cleaning, plug in (power source not specified in the listing), and begin. Because the cleaner head self-adjusts, you don’t have to manually change a floor setting when moving between hard floors and low- to medium-pile carpets — that saves time and reduces guesswork on suction settings.
Practical tips
- For pet hair on upholstery: use the tangle-free turbine tool. Its design reduces snags and makes repeated passes more effective than a standard crevice or upholstery nozzle.
- For dusting delicate items and electronics: the carbon fiber soft dusting brush helps capture fine dust without scratching surfaces.
- For stairs: use the stair tool and keep the vacuum on a lower power mode if your model allows to maintain balance and control.
- For under-furniture: the reach under tool is designed to slip into low-clearance gaps where the main head won’t reach.
- Emptying and basic maintenance: the listing does not specify bin capacity or filter cleaning intervals. Use the MyDyson app for recommended maintenance schedules and replacement parts (source: listing, checked 2025). For longevity, check for hair or string tangles around the brush bar after heavy pet use and remove them promptly.
Noise and power considerations
- The manufacturer’s noise levels and power consumption figures are not provided in the listing, so if noise is a critical factor for your household, confirm these details with the retailer or Dyson support before purchase.
Storage and portability
- The included tool bag helps keep attachments tidy, but the listing does not list folded dimensions or onboard accessory storage — if compact storage is essential, verify those details prior to buying.
Pros vs Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Powerful Radial Root Cyclone design for sustained suction (source: listing, checked 2025) | Weight and dimensions not specified in the listing — may affect portability and storage |

Who Should Buy
- Households with multiple floor types (hard floors + carpet) that need a single machine to handle transitions smoothly.
- Pet owners who need dedicated tools for removing hair from furniture, stairs, and carpets.
- Allergy sufferers who want whole-machine filtration that traps allergens rather than releasing them back into the room.
- Buyers who value manufacturer support and a multi-year limited warranty plus app-driven maintenance guidance.
Who shouldn’t buy
- People living in very small apartments or dorm rooms where a compact or stick vacuum could be a better fit.
- Shoppers who need full technical specifications up front (weight, dimensions, noise level, cord length, or whether the model is cordless) — those details aren’t listed and should be confirmed.
- Buyers on a tight budget who may find a feature-rich Dyson more than they need — consider simpler models if your cleaning needs are light.

4.8 stars I used it as soon as it arrived. Dyson vacuums never disappoint. Easy to assemble easy to manuver, cleans excellent.Carpet almost looks new My only complaint is the weight. Very heavy vacuum.

Awesome vacuum lots of suction, but too much suction. Very very hard to push. Very simple fix. Just install Orings on tabs of lower plate that seals the head to the carpet to create vacuum leak. It still works perfect on carpet and so much easier to push. check Utube to see short repair video.

Sorry for the late review cuz only now I’m using the vacuum, but accidentally I plug it 220V as per the description in Equipment. I cannot find the details about the gadget if it is 110V or 220V, only when I google it. It is under the filter drum. Too late for now.

This is an exceptional vacuum when it comes to usability and suction. The ball roller is a first for me but I love it. The suction is so good it is a little tougher to move on thinker carpet but in a way that you know you are getting things clean. It works well on low pile too. It has a long cord and is easy to dump the contents after using. The loss of one star is because the mechanism to have it stand on its own is very fickle. If you want to stand it up on its own and move it, it is even worse. Constantly drops the cleaning head and is harder to move across multiple floor surfaces (hardwoods, rugs, carpets, etc) to store. This miss is surprising and very frustrating. But the functionality is truly great when vacuuming.

Let me just start by saying I poured over a ton of reviews of different Dyson models before buying, and on finally deciding on this one (Animal 3), was *hoping* the negative reviews weren’t huge red flags. I’ll get specific with my skepticism in this review as it would’ve helped me when shopping. The listing I purchased from was for Animal 2, Animal 3, and Animal 3 Extra models, and comparing basically ALL reviews for the 3 models, I chose Animal 3 and I’m glad I did.
First: the bad reviews stating this vacuum won’t go on thick carpet ALMOST had me convinced not to buy it. Even Dysons site has multiple bad reviews stating the same, more bad than good on their own website! I’m happy to report I have zero issue with this with my shaggy, thick, plush carpets. If it’s on either of the carpet settings it moves just fine. Adjust your vacuum and go.
I’d had a ball Dyson in the past, and I didn’t love it. This was another hesitation. The swivel/ball mechanism on my previous one was loose and flowy, but this meant the thing would curve around just when I was trying to push it straight. This Animal 3 does not do that. It’s a bit tighter, it stays straight but is easy to curve when you want.
My previous Dyson also toppled over anytime I was tugging at the hose and this one, probably because it’s a little heavier, stays up even when the hose is really extended and being jostled around.
PROS: excellent suction, it moves well. I really like how it gets all the way to the edge when you run the side of the vacuum head along the baseboard, not leaving a 1/2 inch gap like my last vacuum. So far I’m really stoked about how the rotating brush clears hair in this Animal 3-we only have one shorthair cat, but I have long hair and so does my daughter, and between the two of us shedding, I’ve done my fair share of cutting the tons of hair that was wrapped around the vacuum beater bar with a utility knife and yanking it out with previous vacuums! So far I have vacuumed my entire house a few times with this Dyson and not a single hair wrapped around the bar in the vacuum head.
To my extreme surprise, I LOVE the little stair tool!! Vacuuming carpeted stairs has been the bane of my existence for years (that’s only a slight exaggeration) and this little tool that looks like it should be meant for hard floors does a killer job picking up all the dirt and bits, while fluffing the carpet nicely, including the carpeted edge and the little vertical part under each step where it fits in just right (the wand even swivels at the end of the hose so you can change your angle with ease while vacuuming your steps). Finally, I’m not lifting a heavy upright vacuum in a ridiculous way and hurting my back to make the stairs look nice!! So far I’m very pleased with this vacuum especially considering my hesitation about buying another Dyson after not really liking my old one. If things change, I will definitely update this review. Not many cons to this vacuum…but…
CONS: it’s kinda heavy, but not much different than my last vacuum (a Hoover windtunnel) or my previous Dyson. The weight is not a huge issue for me.
The plastic parts that seem very breakable are disappointing in such a pricy vacuum. The hooks to wrap the cord look like they could snap, and worse, the thin plastic mechanism that extends down the tank and opens the lower flap to empty it seems very delicate and if that breaks, it could be a real PITA. For several hundred dollars I would hope things would be more durable, but I was aware of this complaint going in—and this is why I give it just below 5 stars. When I have the hose wand out and am putting it back in, it’s a little sticky at the very last part of sliding it back into place at the top of the vacuum. Sometimes it really does NOT want to slide into place, and I have to use a little force. A couple of times it went right in easily. I’m unsure if this is just an issue with my unit or an issue with other Animal 3’s.
I don’t like how there’s not a release to tilt the vacuum, and that you must just *crack* the sucker down to tilt it and start vacuuming. However this on Animal 3, that is easier to do and not nearly as harsh of a crack as the Dyson I had before.
All in all, I was extremely skeptical buying this vacuum and I’m quite thrilled at how much I like using it and how well it works. Especially vacuuming my stairs, it is really a game changer!

I’ve had several Dyson cordless stick vacs and liked them. But my most recent, cheap upright vac just fell apart, it wasn’t up to my 2 Aussies and 3 cats, I guess. Some of my Aussie rescue friends recommended this Dyson Animal, so why not? I’m pretty self-sufficient, but didn’t find the assembly instructions to be the greatest. But I did it. The wand is supposed to slide inside the hose! The tool attachment falls off whenever the canister is removed, poor design.
This vac is heavy. But it moves easily enough if you get the suction mode set properly. It has a ton of suck. But what looks like a large canister is mostly filters, so I have to empty it pretty often. Nothing new there, I have lots of hair and dirt. It has a really long cord, which I like bc I can plug it into one central outlet and do the entire floor.
My biggest shedding dog doesn’t mind being vacuumed and the pet hair attachment actually works! But I brush him first outside with his regular rake first and finish him up with the Dyson. Voila!
This vac doesn’t stay “clicked” into its upright mode for just moving it around, not sure what I am doing wrong. Makes it harder to push when getting it out or putting it away. Shouldn’t be that hard, seems to me. Another design flaw, I fear. But something like that and the tool attachments should have been resolved years ago, seems to me, this design has been around for years.
