Introduction

The Shark AI Robot is a self-guided cleaning robot designed to be the backbone of a hands-off floor care routine. It combines powered suction, a self-cleaning brushroll, and an XL bagless auto-empty base to handle daily dust, pet hair, and routine debris across hard floors and carpets.

This review-style product description breaks down what the Shark AI Robot does well, where it falls short, and who will get the most value from it. Quick verdict: for busy households — especially those with pets — the Shark AI Robot delivers strong everyday cleaning with minimal day-to-day attention required.

What’s in the Box

  • Shark AI Robot
  • XL Self-Empty Base
  • 2 Side Brushes
  • 1 Filter

(If you need replacement parts or accessories beyond these, they are not specified in the listing.)

Design & Build

The Shark AI Robot looks like a standard round, low-profile robot vacuum built to slide under sofas and tables. Materials are primarily molded plastics with rubberized trim on contact points and a clear top panel for the sensor suite. The included XL self-emptying base is noticeably taller than a standard dock because it houses an internal bin and vacuum-transfer system, but it remains bagless according to the listing.

Weight and exact dimensions are not listed, so if you’re concerned about lifting the base or squeezing the robot into tight charging niches, those figures are not specified. Ergonomically, the robot focuses on simplicity: a single-robot unit with a few user-facing buttons and the SharkClean app for detailed control. Removable dust compartments, side brushes, and the brushroll are designed to be user-serviceable for cleaning and replacement.

Key Features

Powerful suction for multiple floor types

What it does: The robot uses Shark-branded suction technology to lift dirt and debris from hard floors and carpets.
Why it matters: Strong suction is the backbone of actual cleaning performance — not just mapping or scheduling. In everyday use, you’ll see better pickup of crumbs, fine dust, and tracked-in dirt compared with low-power alternatives. This makes the Shark AI Robot a practical choice for kitchens, entryways, and carpeted living areas.

Matrix Clean: multiple-pass precision cleaning

What it does: Matrix Clean directs the robot to make multiple passes in a precision grid to focus on soiled areas rather than random wandering.
Why it helps: High-traffic zones and spill-prone spots benefit from repeated passes. Instead of relying on chance, Matrix Clean gives the robot a methodical pattern that increases the odds of lifting embedded dirt in once-over routines.

Bagless self-empty base with up to 60 days capacity

What it does: The XL self-empty base automatically transfers debris from the robot into its onboard container and holds up to 60 days of dirt and debris without a disposable bag (source: listing, checked 2025).
Why it helps in real life: Emptying the robot after every session is the main annoyance with many models. The large capacity lets you forget the bin for weeks, which is a real time-saver in busy homes or for people who dislike handling dusty bins. Note: the base is bagless and does not require replacement disposal bags according to the listing.

Self-cleaning brushroll (anti-hair wrap)

What it does: The brushroll is designed to pull hair and fibers off carpets and hard floors and resist tangling.
Why it helps: If you have long-haired pets or family members with long hair, hair wrap is a frequent maintenance task. An anti-hair-wrap brushroll reduces the need to manually cut or pull hair out, so the robot runs more reliably between cleanings.

360° LiDAR precision home mapping

What it does: A 360-degree LiDAR sensor builds accurate maps of the home, enabling methodical navigation and obstacle detection day or night.
Why it helps: LiDAR mapping improves route planning, reduces collisions, and allows the robot to adapt to changes in furniture or clutter. The result is fewer stuck episodes and more consistent coverage, especially in larger or multi-room homes.

Smart control: SharkClean app and voice assistants

What it does: The robot connects to the SharkClean app for scheduling, zone selection, and status. It also responds to voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
Why it helps: Mobile and voice control make starting a clean as simple as tapping your phone or saying a phrase. For households where convenience matters, these integrations reduce friction and let you run quick spot cleans from anywhere in the house.

Recharge & Resume for extended runtime

What it does: If the robot needs to recharge mid-task, it will return to the dock, recharge, and resume cleaning where it left off.
Why it helps: This prevents partially cleaned rooms on larger floor plans or in cases where the battery drains mid-job. It’s a practical feature for full-home cleans without manual intervention.

Where to buy

Performance & Use

Setup and first run

  • Unbox, place the XL base against a wall on a flat surface, and power it on. The app guides the initial Wi‑Fi connection and mapping run. Expect the robot to perform a mapping pass on its first cleaning cycle — don’t move the base during this run.
  • Keep the charging base clear on both sides for unobstructed docking.

Daily use tips

  • Keep threshold transitions and cable clutter minimized; LiDAR navigates well, but loose cords and low drapes can still snag brushes.
  • Use the app to name rooms and define no-go zones if you have delicate areas or pet bowls you want avoided.
  • For spot-soiling (e.g., kitchen messes), trigger an on-demand clean with the app or voice control.

Maintenance

  • Emptying: The listing indicates the base holds up to 60 days of debris (source: listing, checked 2025). While that reduces frequency, you should still check the base and robot bin every few weeks, especially in homes with heavy shedding pets.
  • Brushroll and side brushes: Even though the brushroll is self-cleaning and anti-hair wrap, inspect it monthly. Remove hair or string that accumulates on bearings or edges.
  • Filters: One filter is included. Replace or wash according to the manual — the listing doesn’t specify filter lifetime or washability, so follow the documentation supplied with your unit.
  • Software: Keep the SharkClean app and robot firmware up to date for mapping and navigation improvements.

Real-world performance

  • Pet hair: The combination of strong suction and the self-cleaning brushroll makes the Shark AI Robot effective at lifting pet hair from carpets and floors with less manual intervention.
  • Carpets vs. hard floors: The brushroll is engineered to engage carpets deeply but also run on hardwood without harm. For embedded dirt, Matrix Clean’s repeated passes are useful.
  • Obstacle avoidance: 360° LiDAR mapping helps the unit detect and route around furniture and low obstacles. It’s not immune to edge cases — toys, thin cords, or highly reflective surfaces may still cause issues.

Pros vs Cons

Pros Cons
Strong suction for everyday dirt and pet hair (reported by listing). Exact suction power and runtime figures are not listed.
Bagless XL self-empty base holds up to 60 days of debris (source: listing, checked 2025). Base is larger footprint — needs floor space for the XL dock.
Self-cleaning, anti-hair-wrap brushroll reduces maintenance. Replacement parts and long-term filter life are not specified in the listing.
360° LiDAR mapping for accurate, methodical navigation. LiDAR and sensors still require clutter management; very cluttered homes may need extra oversight.
App and voice control for hands-free scheduling and on-demand cleans. No explicit runtime or battery capacity listed; unclear how it performs on very large homes without multiple recharges.

Who Should Buy

  • Busy households that want a largely hands-off cleaning cycle. The self-empty base and automated mapping minimize daily chores.
  • Pet owners who need frequent hair pickup. The anti-hair-wrap brushroll and strong suction are targeted at pet hair management.
  • People who value smart-home integration and app control. If you use Alexa/Google Assistant, the voice features make quick cleaning effortless.

Who Shouldn’t Buy

  • Those who need detailed technical specs before purchase (battery runtime, weight, and exact suction figures are not listed). If you need numeric comparisons, the listing lacks some verifiable metrics.
  • Buyers with very tight spaces for a charging station — the XL self-empty base has a larger footprint than standard docks.
  • Users who require disposable bag-based emptying systems (this model is bagless and does not use replacement bags, per the listing).

Amazing, got two dogs so it runs once or twice a day. Love the map feature so you can choose to clean certain rooms. It doesnt bump into anything (used to have a roomba and it did). I used to have to empty my roomba myself while it cleaned, this one goes by itself.
I waited for Prime day and paid 325$ so wellll worth it

As a household with a Shark vacuum on each floor of our house (basement, main floor, second floor), we panicked when our oldest, most powerful Shark robot vacuum died. It was the first generation who could empty themselves and was responsible for taking care of the most extensive square footage of our home (the main floor). As we tried to find parts to repair it, fur was getting out of hand in our household. Unable to take it any longer, we upgraded to the new AI vacuum with a larger dumping bin. Honestly, we are so glad we did since it has been truly night and day!

The new Shark Matrix was very easy to set up out of the box. The bin was together, mostly just getting protective wrapping off the vacuum. From there, it was just waiting for it to charge. Getting it on the app was just scan and go, with the hardest part being deciding what to name our vacuum. After a good twelve-hour charge (we had it charging while we were working and taking care of dinner), we had to do its first sweep of the house, mostly just mapping its new territory. It had a very detailed map on the first try, something our old vacuum had never really accomplished.

What was really impressive, however, was the vacuuming itself. The next day, we let it go on its first true expedition. Unlike our old one, we still have not seen an error, and it has taken care of itself, even with large tufts of dog fur (we have two double-coated Alaskan Malamutes in full shed). It just didn’t care. It took care of everything, emptied itself, and had no clogs! It even had an even better map after working and sent us complete statistics of its work.

We are so glad we got this vacuum and are pleased with how it has cleaned and handled large amounts of dog fur. If you have a double-coated dog and want to make life easier, get this vacuum!

The media could not be loaded.

I absolutely love this robo vacuum! I use it every single day, and it’s been a total game-changer for keeping my home clean. It easily picks up all the pet hair and crumbs from the floors, leaving everything spotless.

One of the best features is that it empties itself into its base after each cleaning, so I don’t have to worry about constantly emptying the bin. I only need to clear the bin once a month (or even longer), which makes maintenance a breeze!

I also love that you can schedule automatic cleanings for when you’re not home, and the ability to select specific rooms to clean is such a time-saver. The spot-cleaning option is perfect for quick touch-ups, too.

This vacuum is efficient, smart, and incredibly convenient—I can’t imagine life without it now. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a hassle-free cleaning solution!

    Where to start?
With the bad, let us get that right out of the way. The mapping is abysmal, truly, we have run Bruce (if you can name a Shark branded robot vacuum, what other name than Bruce would you choose) 25 times, he is nowhere near mapping our house, compared to my brothers robot from a competitor who rhymes with BOOMBA, which did it in three runs. This Shark does not even play the same sport….this prevents me from doing room specific vacuuming. And that is it. Unless you have a multi story house, where this feature is a must have, set Bruce and he will clean you house. Wonderfully. Next, the not so great, Bruce is so mentally challenged. For a smart device, he is pretty dumb, but you want to know something, Bruce is determined. He will get the job done. He may have to fumble and bumble his way about, but he will get it done, and, if you watch, he does get a little smarter each time, just a little, but it is noticeable. Bruce used to do the house in large, long swaths, now he breaks it into one half of the house, then the other, and just the today, a new feature, he went around the perimeter of the house, cleaning the base boards. Small steps.
As for his vacuum, top notch, perhaps too good. Bit of advice, if you get your own Bruce, run the beast on low suction for at least the first 4 or 5 runs….another con, Bruce does not know when he has eaten too much, and like a greedy guppy, he dies…locks up and cries for help… remember, I told you Bruce is not bright, but he is a work horse. When this happens, you cannot tell Bruce to restart, he has to start over, and hopefully one of Bruce’s engineers will fix this, since Bruce will never know how much he has consumed, he has not the ability. Perhaps a command to send him to his base to empty himself, or a shorter duration than the 30 or so minutes it defaults to.
Oh, and the base, the self empty….I am sure robot vacuums before the base were fine, if tedious, since you had to clean them every time….but the base, oh the base is pure genius. Bruce’s base is perfect, we take up with a button, and open it with a button, and never have to touch the refuse. No bag to buy, just push a button, the bottom opens and all that stuff drops out.
If you have not noticed, but this family loves Bruce, we are now looking at getting Bruce a skin, to spruce Bruce up a bit…We have had Bruce for a week now, barely, but already Bruce has made an impact. I absolute honesty I cannot recommend this product enough, it works, it has quirks, but it works, and very well.
    Bit of advice
Turn on all your lights until your Bruce gets a good map of the area, he is a camera based robot and needs to “see” the ceiling, mostly, for landmarks.
Run it on low the first few tries, while Bruce bounces around the first few runs, then move to medium and so on. Remember, Bruce has no sesnor in his bin, he uses a set algorithm that tells him to go back to his base and dump his load. It is terrible. But his vacuum is great, so he gets too full too fast. I can manage it a little for the quality of his cleanup.
Because our house is neither toddler nor robot ready, we did not have all our rooms ready, and so we began mapping with the bedrooms and bathrooms doors closed. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise, the mapping is not great, but it does move forward, slowly. Bruce stared being more efficient in our great rooms’ right about the time we added the bedrooms and bathrooms. Our house, 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 2 great rooms and a heart kitchen, Bruce can do it on one charge now, I think because we basically added one room a day after his initial runs.
I think you can tell, Bruce has been a wonderful addition to our home, truly, a robot vacuum was a luxury I didn’t think worked. It works and now I know what gift I will give every new home owner I know. There a lot of options out there, some a lot cheaper, and if those meet your needs, get them, some a lot more expensive, and aside from one specific feature Bruce does not have,( multi floor mapping) I cannot imagine they are better.

    UPDATED 2/19/20
Mapping works now, had to delete the map once , run it three times, and bang! house mapped. Room specific vacuuming unlocked! Suggestions to others having issues. Delete the map and ( and I think this part is important) run the vac with every light you can on. The robot “see” and makes its map on your ceiling, the more light, the better it see’s.
To reiterate, my little robot, Bruce, has literally changed my house…cannot recommend enough.

    Updated 2/5/21
A year later and no regrets. One of, if not, the best purchases I have made for my home. I will state again Bruce is an addition to the house and family, he is almost a pet….a very dumb, but very hard working pet….he is like a toddler…he seems to always want to be where you are… He cleans your floors and carpets…If you are on the fence about buying a robot vacuum…let me put you at ease…buy one, this is no longer a luxury to my home, they are a requirement, utterly worth every penny. As for a Shark…I love mine. Works great, does what it is supposed to do. The only house I wouldn’t think this is perfect for is multi floor homes. Short of that… a must have.

4/28/23 Still the best purchase we have made for our home cleaning. No change there…but a small observation…recently replaced some furniture and changed the layout of our home. We had to move the dock from a north to south orientation to an east to west…and, I swear, it now navigates even better than before.

Best thing I’ve bought in a long time! This vacuum is fantastic and runs while we are gone to work for the day three days a week. Coming home to a clean house is the best feeling! Easy to use app with options to schedule cleaning days and times, plus it sends helpful alerts. Just be sure to make sure wires, strings, toys, etc. are cleared from the path. Could not be happier and might purchase another for our second floor!

I couldn’t be happier with my Shark robot vacuum! From the moment I set it up, it has been a game-changer for keeping my home spotless. The setup was incredibly easy, and the app integration is seamless, allowing me to schedule cleanings even when I’m not at home.

The suction power is phenomenal, effortlessly picking up dust, pet hair, and debris from both carpets and hardwood floors. I love how it navigates around furniture and obstacles with ease, ensuring that every corner of my home gets cleaned. The self-emptying base is a fantastic feature, saving me time and effort while keeping the vacuum running efficiently.

One of my favorite aspects is the advanced mapping technology. It creates a detailed map of my home, so it knows exactly where to clean and avoids areas I don’t want it to go. The battery life is impressive, easily handling my entire home on a single charge.

The Shark is quiet, efficient, and incredibly effective. It has truly made my life easier, and I can’t imagine going back to manual vacuuming. Highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a top-notch robot vacuum!

Which is a bit unfair. That’s like comparing a 5 year old Merc S class to a new Kia sedan… I’ve had a Roborock (Rr) S6 MaxV for a few years now and it’s having the Cliff Edge error, where dirt seems to have gotten into the sensors and everything is the edge of a cliff… So I bought this about 6 weeks ago, for less than half of what the Rr cost me 5 years ago, with a view to replacing the Rr with this. I will say this does the job and does it well. You just have to learn some quirks and features…

    The Good:
The extended bin. I only empty it once a month now. Lazy, me, no…
The suction. I started to notice the Rr left dust lines on the hardwood after a while.
It keeps track of where it is, whether it’s emptying its own bin or returned for a recharge.
No mop. I don’t need it and this doesn’t have one.

    The Bad:
The base location. 3 feet in all directions must be clear…
The noise. WHAT, SPEAK UP, THIS THING IS LOUD….
The map. It built an OK map but I’m not sure it’s as good as the Rr’s.
The map. Although you can number the rooms in any order that you want and select a subset, it doesn’t follow the room order. The Rr’s does even on a full floor clean.
The charge time. If it says it’s going to need 180 mins to charge before carrying on then it’s going to take 180…

So it sounds like I don’t like this. I do, it does the job and does it well. You just need to adjust to it if you’ve had, or have, a different robovac. I might try and get a 2nd base station for this so I can then run it on both floors. Then I might fix the Roborock or I might just sell it on as is.

I haven’t had to replace anything consumable yet but it uses different ‘bits’ than the Rr does. Shocker I know…

This is worth the buy. Even more so if you don’t want to keep emptying it and you don’t need a mop.

4 stars because the app is a little slow and what’s the point numbering each room if it doesn’t stick to that order when cleaning.
