In recent years, we’ve seen how much our choices for entertainment have evolved rapidly. Aside from the evolution of hardware, the Internet has played a role in how we access entertainment content. In the old days, our access to excellent shows and movies used to be dependent on television, cable subscription, or DVDs.
But nowadays, we all have access to these content as long as you have an Internet connection. Streaming apps like Netflix, YouTube, and Amazon Prime Video have become popular because they could provide these content on-demand and even produce original content.
However, not everyone could pay for a monthly subscription to have access to the content on these streaming services. Today, we’ll be showing you some free apps that let you watch free movies online.
One of the free apps that you might want to check out is Sony Crackle. According to CNET, this is one of the few legit apps that provides free streaming of movies, television shows, and other video content. Because it’s free, it is supported by ads. You’ll have to go through a few of those while you’re watching on the app.
Crackle has a good selection of content, ranging from movies, TV shows, and even originals. The downside, however, is that the content is only on standard definition, so it might not look so good on your new flat-screen TV. Another problem that reviewers encountered is that there is no search function. So, if you’re looking for specific content on Crackle, you have to spend some time looking through the whole section.
But given the excellent selection of content you get for free and fewer ads, Crackle is worth the download.
Originally developed by the South Korean company J2 Interactive as a mobile video player app, MX Player was bought by the Indian company Times Internet in June 2018 for $200 million. Times then turned it into an over-the-top (OTT) streaming service that offers various types of content for its users.
MX Player offers movies, shows, music, news, videos, and several hours of programming through the app. The app is trying to compete with other streaming services like YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, and Hotstar in India.
During its relaunch as an OTT in February last year, it additionally offered 50,000 hours of India-specific content that comes from MX Creators and partners, which include Alt Balaji, TVF, Arre, and SonyLIV. Users can view this content in ten different languages, which include English, Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam.
Aside from the on-demand content, you can also find your local media files on the app. Make sure that you give access to your media files when prompted by the app or else, MX Player shuts down.
Because this is a free app, you’ll find ads popping up once in a while when you use MX Player. But other than that, MX Player is a great app to keep you entertained anytime, anywhere.
MX Player download is available for Android, iOS, Windows, and macOS devices.
Formerly known as XBMC, Kodi is a free and open-source media player software that centralizes your personal media collection and third party applications all in one app.
Kodi lets you organize your local media files from one device like your computer. When the media file is listed on the app, you can now access it using your other devices as long as you have Kodi installed on it. Aside from accessing your collection of media files, you can download third-party add-ons for Kodi, which include music, games, videos, and many more. Kodi keeps an available list of add-ons on their website.
Because it’s open-source, you could also take a crack at customizing Kodi or programming your own add-on to suit your preferences and needs.
Kodi is available for Windows, OSX, Linux, and Android. A version is also available for the Raspberry Pi. Unfortunately, Kodi is not yet available on iOS and Windows Phone. But you can try a Kodi APK download if the conventional app distribution method does not work on your device.
Despite issues with legality, free movie sites like 123movies and Putlockers continue to be one of the more popular options for free access to content. What’s more, you don’t have to sign up for an account to access the content. Users access these sites via their web browser, click on a few ads, and watch the movie or TV episode that they’ve been looking for.
The challenging part of accessing these sites is that it gets shut down by regulatory bodies. However, the online community continues to revive these sites through proxy sites and mirror links. While accessing these sites is a bit concerning, we highly advise you to use VPN to keep yourself safe from tracking.
