The weekday comes from the proleptic Gregorian calendar, the one in civil use today. For dates before a country switched from the Julian calendar (1752 in Britain and its colonies, 1582 in much of Catholic Europe), contemporary records may name a different weekday.

There is no submit step and no options to set, because the calendar admits no ambiguity: a Gregorian date has exactly one weekday and the arithmetic that finds it is a plain day count rather than an estimate.
The tool accepts any date from 1900 to 2100, which covers every living birthday and most planning horizons. Historical dates before the Gregorian reform are a different question, and one worth reading the caveat below on rather than trusting any calculator with silently.

Under the weekday sit the positional facts. The day-of-year number places the date inside its year, so 15 June 1990 was day 166 with 199 days still to run, and those two figures always add to the year length. That makes them a fast sanity check: if they sum to 366 rather than 365, the date is inside a leap year and you should expect 29 February to be part of your reckoning.
The quarter follows calendar months rather than a fiscal calendar, so 31 March 2026 is a Tuesday in quarter 1 and 1 April 2026 is a Wednesday in quarter 2, one day apart and in different quarters. Nothing here depends on a locale setting, because none of it varies by country.
The ISO week number is the fact most likely to surprise, because ISO 8601 defines week 1 as the week containing the first Thursday of the year, and weeks run Monday to Sunday rather than Sunday to Saturday.
When a date straddles the year boundary, the tool names the ISO year alongside the week rather than leaving you to assume the calendar year, because a week number quoted without its ISO year is genuinely ambiguous for about a fortnight either side of New Year.

Why your birthday moves one weekday a year
The same-date-next-year line answers the practical follow-up to any birthday question. A fixed calendar date advances by one weekday each common year, because 365 divided by 7 leaves a remainder of one, and by two weekdays whenever a 29 February falls in between. That is why 15 June was a Friday in 1990, a Saturday in 1991, then skipped Sunday entirely to land on Monday in 1992.
The formula, worked line by line
The weekday comes from a day count rather than from a memorised rule. The date is converted to a UTC midnight, the number of whole days since a known reference is taken, and the remainder after dividing by seven names the day. Because every day in that subtraction is exactly 86,400,000 milliseconds, no daylight-saving transition and no local time zone can move the answer.
That is the whole reason the calculation works on civil dates rather than on instants: a birthday is a calendar fact, not a moment, and treating it as a moment is how a calculator ends up one day out for anyone east or west of the author.
The other facts fall out of the same day count. The day-of-year number is the days elapsed since 1 January of that year, plus one. Days remaining is the year length minus that. The quarter is the month number divided by three and rounded up. The ISO weekday is the same weekday renumbered so that Monday is 1 and Sunday is 7, which is what the ISO week calculation needs and what makes the weekend test a simple comparison.

June has 30 days. The same calendar date in 1991 falls on a Saturday, one weekday later, because 365 days is 52 weeks plus a single day.
The weekday drift is worth understanding because it answers most follow-up questions without a second lookup. A common year is 52 weeks and 1 day, so a fixed date moves forward one weekday. A leap year is 52 weeks and 2 days, so any date after 29 February moves forward two.

Across an unbroken run of four-year leap years the whole cycle repeats every 28 years, which is why 15 June 1990 and 15 June 2018 are both Fridays.
One genuine limitation is worth stating plainly. The tool uses the proleptic Gregorian calendar, meaning the modern calendar projected backwards without adjustment. For a date inside the site input range of 1900 to 2100 this makes no difference anywhere the Gregorian calendar was already in civil use.
